I have met people more stubborn to not watch things based on arbitrary reasons outside of my comprehension but your well-humored response shatters the ambiguity. I love a hillbilly afraid of “Draculers” correcting to “Nose-furr-atchus”
As a stan of good movies and someone who desperately wants more, I’m always ready to swing on people who give dumb reasons to not watch great movies when I KNOW they’ll line up for some mediocre trash blockbuster that they’ll hate
Photography is amazing, but they didn’t stick to authentic facts, like they called Germany in 1838, Germany didn’t even existed as a country back then 🤣 they didn’t fact check.
Exactly I was like hmmm what? Then they even didn’t stick to authentic accents either, I started to believe they were British immigrants maybe?, the way the kids said papa with French accent, idk it was a whole mess and it bothered me so much. I’ll stick to Dracula by Bram Stocker, still my fav.
Moving it to "Germany" also f***ed up the narrative. So, the clerk could reach the castle on horseback (and on foot!!) in the dead of winter, but Orlok had to get to Germany by ship??? Make it make sense.
I have not seen or heard about this film outside of the occasional social media post. I have no idea if its a remake, reboot, a completely new film. Its all very esoteric and I cant be bothered to look further.
It’s exactly what you’d expect. Great looking and dull as hell. They wasted Skarsgard but did always say his gov name with max drama and enunciation. Not remotely your point but had to get that off my chest.
Actually, Bram Stoker's Dracula came first. (i.e. the second romantic novel on vampires after Carmilla). After Bram Stoker's death, his wife took over his estate and even sued the creators of Nosferatu, since they stole directly from Bram Stoker's book.
I don't think I had a point .. jeez. I was trying to have a discussion. I was asking because I would have asked your opinion on it, because I saw a little of it and thought it was funny cinematically, kinda absurd. But honestly now I don't want to know your opinion now. Carry on.
It was OK if you like horror movies, which I generally don’t. Acting was good. It held true to the story, which as others have pointed out was just a gorier ripoff of Bram Stoker.
I wasn't interested in seeing it either it looked a little too Gotti for me. But what I heard from what people said is that it's about facing your abuser. And that's a message I can get behind.
It’s worth watching for the artistry. Cinematography, lighting, costumes, production design, visual fx, makeup fx, acting. Don’t pass on it over a singular pretentious aspect. If you’ve learned one thing from bsky is that it’s filled with artists. Support the arts please.
I guess that’s why it was nominated for best cinematography and production design by Academy Awards, BAFTA, National Society of Film, Critics Choice and Satellite.
Just because you didn't enjoy it doesn't mean it's not good. I personally dislike The Dark Knight trilogy, but those films are still really good cinema.
I disliked the trilogy's writing, but the overall result on screen was engaging.
Nosferatu was like influencer reels: pretty, well-managed, well-lit, nice hair, hollow.
If that's good cinema, I guess I prefer low bar productions.
I love Eggers' films but this was a swing and a miss for me. A very by the numbers vampire flick. Felt considerably less interesting than Coppola's Dracula. Even Dafoe and Ineson (always a treat) struggled to elevate it. A very stylish movie but miserably dull.
Glad you got something out of it. Perhaps weight of expectation injured it for me. Am used to Eggers conjuring really unexpected and unsettling scenarios, stuff that really weirds me out. This felt a very straightforward retelling and so was disappointed.

Really good movie.
Skarsgard’s acting was perfect.
It's so fake not even it's own stills connect to each other.
It's just a board of pretty images. Disconnected. Pretentious.
Like those "Best Workplace" Awards.
Well, it seems I'm uncultured. 🤷♀️
I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Boring stuff.
