Wondering why so many people have mycoplasma (aka walking pneumonia) lately? Here’s a clue.
Just published: after propensity matching, those w/ prior #COVID19 infection were about 3x more likely to get mycoplasma than those without #COVID: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanwpc/article/PIIS2666-6065(24)00212-8/fulltext

It is baffling to me how the public hasn't made the connections yet of the consequences of covid infections. They keep coming in with all sorts of complaints but don't understand that they can be linked to this virus that causes a variety of persistent long term issues.
You were the very first Doc I followed back in the day, on Xwitter.
The cough is very forceful .I can imagine those droplets going pretty far .I wore a mask indoors when I was coughing a lot and so pretty infectious
📌
8%–10% felt SARS-CoV-2-induced chronic diseases.
Reinfection led to a higher incidence and severity of long COVID.
Study after study after study keep showing the same LongCovid prevalence, but everyone still assumes it is rare or won't happen to them.
Nothing is surrsising here.
Not as big, but slightly reminiscent of the early AIDS days.
Where’s the report on skin damage, hair loss and ligament and tendon tears?
It’s described to me as, “That Cough” … as if it is an entity unto itself, a common condition, “going around.”

Just not as solid philosophically as RCT, double blind, etc.
And I literally say this to my patients when they ask why…that I’m pretty sure getting covid repeatedly has screwed us all. 😒
I wish kids could be kids again.
😞
My kid hasn’t had covid in nearly 2y—thank some masking, antiviral nasal sprays/gargle, and blind luck—but since his first covid infection, he’s gotten SO. MANY. colds that last way too long. And his coaches get grumpy if he stays away from practice when he’s sick. Whyyyy
When I mention the possibility of COVID causing “so much (insert illness here) right now” my doctors roll their eyes at me.
My patients keep asking why I mask in clinic. This is why. I see 20-24 patients a day, in a small room, built in the 90s with no air circulation.
I'm keep asking healthcare pros why they stopped
The Chinese study is a little hard (well for me anyway:) to interpret on this as “COVID-19 participants also self-reported more bacterial, influenza and mycoplasma infections“

But also the amoxicillin is making me sleepy.
On the point of the article, my n of 1 study involved two negative Covid rapid tests, although, you know. Who knows.
of those recent events. Feel better! You know this, but the flu-like illness may have been #COVID19, & rapid test didn’t flip pos because your immune system kept virus in nose low after prior vaccine +/- #SARSCoV2 infections. Flu is still low in most 🇺🇸 wastewater. #MedSky
This all seems consistent..
