Stop chiding people for the closure and loss of things like shops, pubs, and cinemas like it's their fault. The reason people aren't using these things is BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FUCKING AFFORD THEM.

I re-realised this the other day: the nighttime (or leisure, or frankly, *anything*) economy of the very big cities has been fatally wounded by the level of rents/mortgage rates. People spend such a large % of their wages on housing, they simply do not have the cash to take part in, or see anything
Rents for commercial properties too make businesses unviable even when charging high prices. This guy is the most perceptive politician of the last 20 years
True to an extent, although I think it is worth chiding people for using shops as a showroom to try stuff out, then buying the item on Amazon to save a couple of quid, and then complaining when the shop closes down. Those cunts need a good chiding.
I generally prefer to buy from the high street if the cost difference isn't huge, say another ~5%. But sometimes they just can't compete with the online price and so they miss out on the sale.
True except for cinemas. People don’t use them because they’d rather wait 2 weeks and watch the movie on their massive TV at home from a nice comfy sofa than sit with a bunch of noisy strangers on a suspiciously sticky seat.
Yes, they’re much cheaper than many other forms of entertainment. As for the latter issue, my simple solution is not to buy the popcorn. Believe it or not, it is possible to sit for 2 hours without stuffing your face. Or bring your own snacks.
in my case it's cos the nearest cinema to me doesn't do subtitles, and i'm not getting a train to Belfast just to watch a movie that only has one or two subtitled timings
I've got a 72" ambilight TV with a decent sound system.
Combining that with the fact I've a VPN & an ISP that seems to not give a fuck what I'm doing online and suddenly the idea of paying a ton of money to try to watch a film while some twat plays with his phone in my periphery is not so tempting.
If the pub is shit, it deserves to fail: I know of two near me that closed because one was watering the beer, and the other was run as a drinking pub for the landlord and their six mates- going in that one was like the Slaughtered Lamb on a slow day.
