A second for brandywine, not that I could identify most of the entries on that list. But, I remember my dad telling me I liked them when I asked, so it’s one of the few cultivars I remember.

I’ll eat a Brandywine for lunch. Slice it, salt it. That’s it. The problem with a lot of those larger varieties is they crack. Water daily. If you let them get really dry and then water, the surge of uptake of water will make it worse.

That is intense and purposeful. We get our seedlings from the community garden sale in one of the historic Black neighborhoods in town but we tend to go for golfball-sized and smaller for slicing. The big toms we buy from the Hmong farming family at the tailgates, they know their shit.

Love all her varieties! I did Canestrino di Luccas last year - they were fun and made great sauce. Opalkas are so good, doing Sheboygan for the first time this year.

Tell her to put Council Bluffs on her list if she likes a big beefsteak. Best flavor, low cracking, huuuge.
