Terrific isn't it, an absolute stunner. It really didn't need Castle's trademark gimmick that annoyingly interrupts the climatic tension, but that aside it's classic stuff.

In as far as the hideous grimace goes yes, but the story behind it and the one that unfolds is pure gothic horror. It's perhaps my favourite of Castle's films, beautifully atmospheric.

Excellent. I honestly think you'll enjoy it, classic black and white gothic with a great cast. It was mentioned earlier that someone mistook it for Hammer, which is testament to it's quality.

Couldn't agree more. Saw this on TV a short while ago and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I was constantly thinking: "This is a Hammer film with American accents!" Not sure if that's what they were going for, but it's certainly how I saw it. Castle was certainly a showman!

The Hammer analogy is spot on, it's classic gothic horror. Anyone doubting Castle's ability to direct serious, chilling film should check it out. Just a shame he gave in to the gimmick, totally breaks the climatic atmosphere!
