Daredevil: Born Again is about a blind vigilante fighting Donald Trump. That's what it's about. That is 1000% what it's about. As such it has more guts than any political thriller you've seen on TV this year.

Hmmm, Fisk seems to have a genuine desire to do well for the city, albeit with some ruthless tactics. Also, he seems to value his relationship with his wife.
Yeah but like, why overhaul the show to bring back supporting characters from ten years ago – who new viewers have no affinity for – only to write them off immediately?
And then Matt is acting shockingly normal a year later?
I've written a whole series of tweets like this one about shows all year lol. "What if a billionaire took over the country." "What if people within the government destroyed the country's infrastructure" etc
i co-sold a show in 2020 about a billionaire who buys a media company and the journalists who fight to stop him from ruining it and my eyeballs spasm every time i recall a moment where someone in development tried to make it not that
It’s wild b/c the original Mayor Fisk storyline in the comics started in 2017, also pretty clearly as a response to dipshit’s election, but this feels much more unhinged, right at the exact moment when real life has done the same. Soule’s Mayor Fisk was corrupt, BA’s version is openly a sociopath.
I'm actually relieved to hear this from several sources because from an interview with the director seeming like douche and then all of the podcast demographic type trailers I was seeing without any story... I was really worried.
I don't know! Due to a problem with screener access I've only seen the first couple episodes same as everyone else. It seems to be more closely following the more recent Mayor Fisk storyline.
no. are you aware there's a blind ninja lawyer named Daredevil, that he has a couple of friends, and that he has enemies named Kingpin and Bullseye? Then you're good to go.
You think I'm kidding? Kingpin's power base is Staten Island. When in Philadelphia, he patronizes Geno's. His crew of hooting and hollering young men wear baseball caps with his slogan on them. Daredevil: Born Again knows writers who use subtext, and they're all cowards
ZERO DAY: The real danger lies at the political extremes of both parties
DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN: Morons elected a real-estate-swindling murderer because he Gets Shit Done. He's bribing the cops into doing his bidding. "You don't need Manhattan when you've got Staten"
The comic did a series a few years back with this very premise. Kingpin even makes Murdock Deputy Mayor. Really fun read and a preview of the past 10 years…
Daredevil is out here listening to Nick Cave and The Magnetic Fields on vinyl (!) and I'm making it head canon that the TV on the Radio needle drop was his internal monologue. Matt Murdock has always been the swaggiest superhero.
I haven’t watched the new season yet, but as someone who loves to imitate D’Onofrio growling “It makes me feel alone,” I concur wholeheartedly with your take on the Fisk voice
And wholeheartedly concur on D’Onofrio as Fisk, with a “yes, and…” His use of Fisk’s voice is incredible, but for my money, even more so are his mannerisms. They combine to give the impression of someone who is continually restraining himself. The sheer energy his tics and twitches hint at…
Oh! And one other aspect of his physicality in Daredevil: he uses STILLNESS so well.
He's slow, deliberate, and precise in everything he does, except when he lets his inner violence and rage out. It's that sense of constraint that he wields that makes his explosive violence shocking.
I haven't always agreed with you on capes or Star Wars (which is partly why I appreciate your writing so much), but I'm thrilled to be vibing with you on this.

If you have the time, the Netflix seasons are worth watching.
What's even the point
And then Matt is acting shockingly normal a year later?
Feels structurally unseaworthy
And I think it worked. My wife was shouting at the TV for a good minute.
Matt may seem to be 'over it', but pay attention to what he puts in his jacket pocket.
Im not reading
Don't tell me anything
Don't want any spoilers

D’Onofrio is genuinely one of the best character actors of his generation.
