Not sure this saves *any* of those mayoralties had we reverted to SV, that's how bad these polls are! Labour has to realise there are more potential members in our voter coalition than just the ones on the right in 5-party politics. And we've actively made ourselves repellent to so many on the left!

That specific one isn't especially good evidence - you'll never get enough transfers to someone that isn't Jenkyns to stop her (partly because the second choice isn't super-clear and partly because people don't transfer solidly). Even AV would struggle to gather enough votes to stop her.

I expect a lot of LD/Grn voters would put the other second, Labour third and the Tories fourth; but there will be anti-system LD/Grn voters who prefer Reform to the big two. There will be voters who hate the Tories so much they vote Labour 1, Reform 2. And there'll be weird people.

Back when we had Euro elections, about 2% of votes for Iain Paisley (Sr) had Sinn Fein as second preference. About 10-20% of voters cross back and forth between Unionists and Nationalists.

The only way to beat Jenkyns if she had that big a lead is "above-the-line" voting (where voters can vote a single X for a party and that is treated as an AV vote for the preference list that party designates - like the Australian Senate).

I spent the first twenty years of my life there, which means I haven’t lived there for nearly forty years. Many of the people are vituperative, ignorant and aggressive. They often have a chip on their shoulder. Not everyone of course, but many are like this. This political outcome feels inevitable.
