The first Trump presidency spawned the largest protests the U.S. had seen in half a century. But not everyone wants to participate in another four years of mass movement work.

Oh wow, I am so surprised the NYTimes wrote ANOTHER article about the disarray & depression on the left. Seriously?! The standards & perfection the left is held to when the other side are treated either like children or reasonable somehow is despicable. This is why we cancelled our subscription
Don't worry the real heads were here holding it down protesting Biden's genocide while you libs were back at brunch. Maybe now you'll notice evil when a Democrat isn't doing it
Not an accurate lead- the protest movement that was spawned will continue - maybe not in the same way since our legacy media was MIA- we go elsewhere now!
Bc it doesn't work, esp. if the protesters don't have sufficient self-discipline. Even when they do, it doesn't have any impact, invites chaos agents to the scene, & now more than ever invites government goons to intervene. If there isn't enough outrage for a multi day national strike, don't bother.
The Democrats lost touch with the working class. The Republicans lost touch with the law. The media lost touch with the truth. The internet lost touch with reality.
The Times has been weirding out for months -- dampening our hope and political energy. Whom do stories like this help? I'm going to make an effort to shut down "FUD" -- fear, uncertainty, and doubt -- even after the inauguration.
Nowhere near the same sort of outrage of activism post-election this time. People channeled their frustration and anger at the Democratic Party establishment for leading the party into a landslide defeat. Trump feeds on hate and protests it only galvanises his supporters.
Change your socks, y'all. Take a beat, get your health right, get your head right, and then get back in the fight. There's a place here for everyone that's willing to help.
Preemptively saying this is unfortunate, and frankly wrong. The sad thing is that the NYT would promote capitulation. When authoritarianism forced its way into our nation the New York Times facilitated it.
How little we accomplished during his first term? We saved health care for millions of Americans. We got dozens of new people elected to office. We formed grassroots groups that are still vibrant and NOT exhausted or giving up. Who is the NYT talking to in this reporting??
this type of article soon after 1/Trump election 2/ the list of crazy candidates proposed 3/ the ugliness of Elon’s plans to find efficiency .. Really?? We put a knee on the ground 3 weeks ago - with your article we put both so NYT if you believe in freedom/democracy try first to cheer us
I totally get it. I haven't watched the news since the election. I've tried several times, including Joy Reid last night, and had a panic attack (literally). I guess 9 years of chaos can really mess with your head. I'll keep trying though. It's not the time to be uninformed.
An abandonment of the Democratic party is necessary for any real resistance to occur. Under Pelosi the system of serving the donor class has finally cost them the House, Senate and the White House. The party has learned nothing and will not reform.
We can’t ever know what would have been different had we not protested, it’s nice to think it made him realize some of his actions weren’t without potential consequences. I fear this time though, people will be too scared and tired to fight back against his unchecked power.
Work smarter, not harder!
We need to fight like Trump: start fundraising for PACS like George Conway’s. Use that money on legal fees to sue that f’cker from the comfort of our own homes. Jack Smith is probably available right now. 😂
Forgive me if I'm having a hard time seeing the worth in a nation that just threw morals out the window. Many people in this country are dumb and selfish. They deserve whatever misfortune is coming their way. My time as an American is officially winding down. Within 10 years, I'll be gone forever.
The 2/3 that didn’t vote are irrelevant. They could have flipped the result or increased trumps lead. It’s impossible to tell. Probably the latter actually since they’re clearly not engaged enough to understand the ramifications and so probably would have just voted for “the funny old guy”.
Actually when asked many didn’t like Trump but also didn’t want to vote for a woman, didn’t have enough information (bad excuse) then there are those that said yeah I’m going to write in a vote. 🙄
Ya know what, the otherside doesn't protest. Well minus that pesky insurrection. They Vote! Protest, rallies & crowds are meanless without turnout on election day!
The Democrats lost touch with the working class. Your voters and their economic struggles are more important than Beyonce appearing at the Harris rally. When you can't pay rent, social justice is no longer a priority. Go back to the working class.
No, people were manipulated into thinking an anti union, felon, rapist had their best interest at heart. Russia has been engineering this for decades. Putin is getting everything he wants.
I just listened to today's NYT Daily. For what it's worth, Indivisible is seeing call numbers and group engagement levels we haven't seen since 2017. NYT didn't talk to any Indivisible group leaders or anyone on the Indivisible team for this though. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-daily/id1200361736?i=1000677457028
"But this is not the time to sit back and watch and let this happen all over again.’” She added: “‘You fight for your daughter, and your daughter fights for hers.’”
You’re on here anonymously. If you can’t even stand behind your own words behind a screen, nobody thinks you’re standing up in real life. No need to ask you.
There is no need to protest now. Let his terrible policies take hold so we can win back the house (and maybe the Senate) in 2026. It's time for everyone to point out his failures and counter his policies endlessly.
He thrives in conflict, the more you resist him, the more powerful he becomes, let him do what he wants, he will only fail harder and faster, the country will be deeply damaged as the people who voted for him wanted, democracy, right ? #trumpwillfail
White guys x sex offenders x fraud x UFC x fastfood x crypto x podcast bro’s x Fox x https://X.com x billionaire class x post truth x chaos by design x offensive by design x big oil #maga
I think democratic senators should just sit on their hands and let the Trump clown show play out. It’s going to hurt the MAGAts the most, and since they lack empathy, or the ability to think clearly, maybe the pain they feel will be the only thing to reach their tiny brains. The NYT already did it.
I'm done. I'm reverting and all but giving up on anything national. I'm moving towards some type of suburban (Trump) prepper. Preparing my household for bad times. America is so far from what I thought we were, so far and moving away. I don't have the energy or desire to fight it anymore.
Nothing seems to work. The few get elected by the blind, deaf, and stupid and the agenda being pushed belongs to the people with the money to pay for those changes. It doesn't matter how much you protest, it isn't hitting them where it hurts. In their votes and in their wallets.
The boy who cried wolf syndrome - rage baiters are prevalent on the left as well as the right. And maybe the first “resistance” actually created the second time.
Don’t mistake the scarcity of protest demonstrations for a scarcity of pro-democracy, anti-MAGA movement activity. And be sure to check out https://indivisible.org - because a whole lot of other people have been. Movements ≠ protest demonstrations.
The fatigue is part of the plan. The sheer volume of garbage being spread is designed to make us tired, and for us to be able to distinguish between each individual piece. Can we ignore that one - or is it important, vital? Who knows? It's all bad, but what do we need to address *first*?
Being faithful and true to your believes is tested in times of trouble where you have to take personal risk. This second line suggests important media in the US is also surrendering. Shame on you.
It was easy to feel the outrage and disgust when we won the popular vote and still lost. This time....we know exactly what a horrible person we are getting ....and almost 50% voted for a felon. We deserve what we are about to get.
Resisting these awful leaders does not mean you need to be out in the streets chanting 24/7
There's always to be done in the background in the next 4 years to undermine their insane policies. Right now, the best thing anyone can do is find the support groups they need most and be involved with them
We’re tired of Dems focusing on culture and identity politics that affect a tiny percentage of people while ignoring the bigger picture stuff that affects the vast majority. Only the fringe wants to die on the hill of ultra-wokeness.
Our family marched in several large protests in Mpls and St.Paul in 1st term. They were incredible events.... energizing, and so important in galvanizing against his bullshit. We need marches more than ever. They do it all over the world. Isreal, Belarus, even Russia. Call one. I'm there!!!
No NYT. We will be here fighting the good fight. The Resistance doesn’t have to be marching in pussy hats to be active. We’re here, we’re regrouping and we will fight back.
Give people a little time--they're still too nauseous from seeing the results of the election. Maybe once people see how badly he is tearing our institutions apart, they will be ready to act.
I wasn't alive during the Civil Rights protests but it's my understanding that, despite how we teach the history of the era, change happened because of grassroots efforts and uneventful admin work. Not that the marches weren't valuable but that they were only 1 piece
Trump's Dirty Maggie 'Duranty' Haberman and The Nefarious New York Times are repeating their history of enabling apologists for corrupt Republican regimes http://www.citjourno.org/maggie3

We have a republic, if we can keep it.
Bloody traitors. I don’t know how they sleep at night.
We must STOP the 5th Column from destroying America.
NEVER EVER GIVE UP‼️
🙏🏼💙🇺🇸
Getting ahead yourself there, NYT.
Now you're just sad that our reaction to another Trump Presidency isn't to throw money at you.
We need to fight like Trump: start fundraising for PACS like George Conway’s. Use that money on legal fees to sue that f’cker from the comfort of our own homes. Jack Smith is probably available right now. 😂
There's a lot of soul searching dem politicians need to do, and I think we're all tired of fighting for them when they're not fighting for us.
The country is literally divided 2/3 of the country eligible to vote didn’t.

The time to resist was when your party says they don't need to make sure their chosen candidate should be vetted via a rigorous primary.
The time to resist was when voters told you they would never support funding violence.
When public opinion started to shift, they could've fought to shift it back. Instead, they embraced the narrative in a wholly unconvincing manner.
He end result was a depressed base & zero GOP gains.

I protested against Trump multiple time during his first term.
I don't post pics.
It's a team effort and everyone needs and deserves downtime. Our collective mental health requires it.
There's always to be done in the background in the next 4 years to undermine their insane policies. Right now, the best thing anyone can do is find the support groups they need most and be involved with them
Have at it and let the house fall.
Let's recover and see what happens when Trumps actions start having an effect.
ready to man the barricades.
We're all in on this thing 'till it's over and the job is finished.
