GREAT comment.
And I was going to tell that person that they look in to it. It was a real societal battle at the time.
Stopped me in my tracks.
You nailed it. Well done.
So . . . The key headline is her hatefulness “virtually destroyed” HER CAREER, not the violence and pain she inflicted on others. And it wasn’t just “opposition to gay rights.”
She did inspire so many folks to gay rights activism. which is why I suppose they waited until January 9 2025 to announce a death that took place Dec 16th 2024. So many would of showed with pies loaded had they known.
Florida orange juice queen sabotages career by claiming to “save the children.” It’s a straight line to the Trans hate of today. Only one person killed her career, and it wasn’t her target.
I am baffled this morning reading hundreds of excited messages about someone I have genuinely never heard of.. possibly my age or not being from the US?
I remember her commercials. Th
She used her celebrity to convince audiences that Gays were after their children. What was sort of a non issue about anti-discrimination suddenly became a national conversation. Anita Bryant was a divisive personality and seemed to enjoy it.
Clearly she (and her manager) were dumb@sses, because SMART people in the entertainment industry know that the gays are important to making one’s career a success!
Even I know that and I’m not even a celebrity. 🤷🏻♀️
For comedy lovers, her hatred of people who had no effect on her is the reason for the line, "I haven't seen anything like this since that Anita Bryant concert!" in 1980's "AIRPLANE!"
You might have remembered her orange juice commercials...?
I didn't realize she was still alive in 2024.
She was the epitome of shrill and bigoted. Kind of an uberKaren freaking out on lgbtq people publically and frequently through the 70's.

Seriously.
Like… I’ll forget her name by tomorrow.

This kind of hate is personal, and may she burn in hell for calling herself a Christian while doing the opposite of what Christ taught.
But in Anita's case its true. She ruined, absolutely ruined her professional and personal life with her bigotry.
But in 2024 she would have been a star on Fox

I looked at her wiki page because I was surprised about the claim. The only "hits" she had came out between '59-'61, so before I was born.
It looks like she was a has been whose career was largely dead long before she went anti-gay.
They referred to this couple as Mr. And Mrs. Dry.
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😁😁😁
