The U.S. began celebrating its first president when George Washington was still a general. Nearly 300 years since his birth, the holiday has morphed into a celebration of the presidency.

I don't understand the idolisation of the president in America. He's just a man (invariably!), elected to temporarily serve the people. But ultimately the president is just an ordinary person with executive power alongside the other branches of government.
The time to fate a president is after they've left office and have proved their worth. Before that, they are simply working to earn respect and accolades. They may yet fail.
Wired's top line today, "Top US Election Security Watchdog Forced to Stop Election Security Work." Has the Times cover this....Reason 980 why I canceled my Times subscription.
Our living ex-presidents should be standing up to decry what is happening right now. It's clearly an abuse of power – if not outright fascism – and it's tanking our Democracy. If they want us to celebrate them, they should be doing something.
Because we as a media company were afraid of Maga and Trump...We decided Trump as president would be ok, nothing to fear, business as usual.....And now, we've $millions to pay homage to Trump....Tepid reporting, our new nickname.
I don’t understand the notion of celebrating a politician. What do they actually do other than take bribes from lobbyists to keep the wealthy wealthy, the poor miserable and the middle work themselves into an early grave?
It doesn't make sense to celebrate a President's Day!
It gives the person in the White House, arguably the most powerful politician in the world, even more power!
Why not have a Speaker's Day, or a Mayor's Day, or a Voter's Day, etc..?
We’re living in unprecedented times and the least you could do is write an article about how threatened we are and how are from an actual POTUS we have.

Stop treating the president as 8f he (and hopefully one day she) was some superhero or god-like figure. It's not deserved nor is it warranted.
It’s evolved into 60% off at Macy’s this weekend

Seems like we keep blaming the decent people (Dems, decent journalists) instead of focusing on the true bastards.
The truth is … very few of us did everything we could have to prevent this. I know I didn’t. 😔
