I will never use a cab in Austin again after, and this is no exaggeration, exclusively bad experiences. I mean that literally, that I’ve never had a positive experience in a cab in Austin. Some cities they’re good - happy to use them in Vegas, for example. But never again at home.

Last time I took an Austin cab (last year) the driver refused to use the meter rate and charged a made up flat rate. It got pretty heated before I gave up and paid. He said “go ahead and report me!”

People regularly drove to and from bars every weekend and then magically there was a safer and more convenient option and it was inexplicably banned. That radicalized me, honestly.
