A most interesting theme, indeed. In the West we have opposed what Latouche called “gentle degrowth”, voluntarily putting a limit to our reckless destruction. Now we’re getting the hard degrowth, via terminal economic damage induced by climate related events.

The reason that ‘climate action’ has fallen out of conversations is that we’ve realized that to lower emissions (emissions now are still rising) the ONLY way to do that is by living a lower energy future i.e. #FlyLESS #DriveLESS #EatLESSMeat #BuyLESSstuff and ppl are simply unwilling to do that.

An example: one cousin's home was flooded in Houston when Harvey went amok. Had to live in an apt. for 2-3 months at least while their house was renovated. Her brother lives in the L.A. area and they just escaped losing their house by only a few blocks.

Everyone talks about "adapting", so what does that mean? I propose building smaller, more practical homes. Does a family of 3 need 7,000 square feet? How should the rebuilding of Los Angeles look? Just a thought for society as we learn how to "adapt".

When I hitchhiked Ireland years ago I stayed in a 900 yr old farmhouse. The doors and rooms were a bit small, but it was nice. Concrete and brick.
If we replace a house every fifty yrs that's 18 houses not built. Plus fire and mould proof.

It’s not just fossil fuels. methane gas is far more potent than CO2 from farming billions of animals which is also destroying our forests, polluting our rivers and streams, causing ocean dead zones, accelerating climate change from all the methane. 70 percent of wildlife is now gone 😔
