I'm not with you all the way. The final episodes were a bit much. But the early eps were gold. And I loved Father Latte, as I call him. And that fight scene in the hallway? Damn!

I mean, at the end of the day it has the flaw of any attempt at a serious corporate superhero story: they've got to have a big superhero fight with all the iconography. It's the journey that matters, though, and Daredevil has a pretty good one

No doubt. I think the first season is probably top two in the Netflix universe. I still place Jessica Jones at the top, but Daredevil is up there. They humanized the heroes. They were vulnerable. That's good drama.

Yeah, Cox and D'Onofrio clearly decided to take it very seriously, to the show's benefit. But the casting as a whole is really good across the board! The only somewhat weak link is Elden Henson as Foggy, and even he isn't at all bad!

It also takes the subject matter, including the violence, very seriously. DD is barely standing up at the end of that hallway fight in ep 2., as an actual person would be.

It's interesting to compare it to Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, shows whose first seasons lose their focus and derail themselves pretty badly midway through, despite equally committed acting turns by their respective leads

IMO the low points of the season are the intro of the nebulous “Black Sky” mythology and also the fate of Ben Urich, but the central Matt vs. Fisk storyline is very good

Yeah, you're always going to have ninjas in Post-Miller Daredevil, but the Defenders-seeding stuff is pretty rough and the decision to kill of Urich robs the ensemble of a great actor/character that they never really manage to replace
