Hi Luke! Are you a mushroom forager? If so I am interested in learning how to spot non-poisonous mushrooms. Know of anyone on the northeast coast?! Thanks in advance
We can only learn each edible mushroom one species at a time, there is no good rule of thumb or test that will protect you from all poisonous mushrooms
I’ve been hunting for mini mushrooms to photograph but these are the only ones I’ve found so far. Is there particular trees or ‘hosts’ that are known to promote mushroom growth I should be looking for? I’m in Northern California.
As a child in Maine I would often be face down on a moss patch with a magnifying glass, pretending I was exploring a jungle inhabited by tiny spiders, mites, ants, etc. amongst the undergrowth of the "trees" I would carefully separate w tweezers.
This nicely composed shot reminds me of that.
I watched a YouTube and it's all about him building places n the woods to survive they r magical. Anyway he went out to pick mushrooms where he was at and ate them I guess he knew which ones to eat. There were a lot too.
You know, I appreciate the effort and all that but, the only time I ever want to hear that phrase is when a bro walks thru my door with an open baggie!😜
You must try and post some information about your mushrooms so that one can know whether you can eat them or not. I only know the ones with red and white spots are highly toxic, but I don't get to see those often in my valley of the mountains.
Somewhere in Wildcat Ridge I think. The woods are scoured by mushroom hunters pretty early. If I see fresh mushrooms they're almost certainly not edible unless they *just* popped.

This lepiota is more my size, with the May Ho (chuckle) CD I found nearby for scale:
