When I said this is like writing through an infinite divorce, I've done that too. It sucked. This sucks more - but the only way I've ever managed to continue is to grit my teeth & imagine something better than this. My whole life as a human & writer is that. I refuse to imagine hopelessness.

I am imagining survival, and I am
imagining joy. The work of writing stories about the history of the world is also the work of imagining ways to get to a future that isn't just brutality and chaos. So that's the work I'm on right now, and it keeps me going.

Also, maybe relevantly, I've been a type 1 diabetic since I was 14 - which means I've had a chronic mortal illness for 33 years. Because I was born at a lucky time, injectable insulin exists & here I am, alive. Big part of my personal project has always been writing in the face of death.

Agree. I write more because I can and it's fun. But fuckme, it's been hard getting words out of my head to my laptop. Swimming 4 or 5 days a week helps, but it's not enough.
