Trust is the single most valuable currency in international relations. The Americans just stacked all of theirs on a giant pyre and set it ablaze for the world to see. It will take years, if not decades, to rebuild it, if at all.

The U.S is gone and gone for good. They need to be thought of as Russian adjacent. Democratic leaders need to use their time & energy building networks with other democracies. They still have to deal with the U.S due to its size etc but they are not an ally and not to be trusted or relied on.
The US is just the extreme example of the trend. Lying (or at least economy with the truth) is now the default for governments, political parties, the media and corporations.
If there will be a next, democratically elected US-President, it may well be a Democrat and s/he will have to do a lot of apologizing, travelling, goodwill spending…
The Democrats need to run a straight, white male for the office just so that the republicans don’t get every racist, misogynistic bigot vote by default. As close-minded as it may seem, it doesn’t seem to work for them any other way. 🤮
A Vice president who is making up his mind about a war based on stories he has heard is is not worth the paper his name is written on. That little "wanna be big" boy is mad at President Zelensky because he had to admit that he hasn't got a f****** clou.
I honestly think Zelensky instigated that blow up. There was no need for him to antagonize Vance over his relatively benign comment on diplomacy, which was effectively what began that confrontation.
Ofc Vance should've desisted when Zelensky challenged him, but Zelensky should know he's on thin ice with Trump, and that the press pool is not where you lecture the VP over giving a boilerplate platitude about diplomacy. Zelensky lost his temper over nothing, and deserves most of the blame for it.
Zelensky didn't lose his temper. He said Putin has violated every agreement he ever signed which is 100% true. And asked Vance what kind of diplomacy he's proposing in this case. That's when Vance started insulting Zelensky.
Vance is an idiot and a bully.
Yes, Zelensky was absolutely correct when he pointed out Russia's treachery. This is something he should've said behind closed doors, not at the press pool.
This is something he and many other leaders have probably said 100 times so far. Both behind closed doors and in public. This is the reason to demand security guarantees.
And this is why Russia is against this. Because they don't really plan to uphold the peace.
Blame? You misspelled "praise" there; this exposed, unequivocally, that Trump is Putin's toy in a way even conservative press (outside the US that is) can't dismiss.
Traditional diplomacy doesn't apply with the US anymore.
I don't think Zelensky deserves praise for squandering what might be Ukraine's last chance to retain at least some US support. Zelensky was right in pointing out that Russia broke every peace deal it signed, but that's something you bring up behind closed doors, and not in front of the press pool.
No way, this is a position Ukraine and Europe in general have been very clear about. No peace or any other deal without security guarantees for Ukraine.
And let's not pretend that Trump was going to give Ukraine any support.
Trump has never upheld a bargain in his life either; his record puts Putin's in the shade. And that wasn't a deal; it provided no guarantees of further assistance even if you could trust Trump.
Trump is Idi Amin with nukes. Diplomatic norms no longer apply in his White House.
There are plenty of people with childhood trauma who did the work and became wiser, more emotionally intelligent people than most as a result of their experiences which they've processed.
This just further damns the White House excuse for leadership as the stunted man children they are.
This goes a lot beyond that. Trust in the dollar and the US as a place of business will also have gone. How can u hold dollars given a president where there are no rules. That will have major implications for decades

That won't work for Trump's *next* successor, though, now that we've seen that the US can backslide this rapidly.
I'm in my mid-50s and I'm not sure I'll live to see the damage fully repaired.
And to be fair Trump still has 4 years to do something unspeakable.
They dont know trust.
So they don't understand its value.

You Americans are about to go through a lot of things.. there is no easy exit from fascism.
You have no Allies anymore - not really.
