today on website we're discussing why its wrong and hurtful for some people to be mean to other people and how we dont want that bullcrap on our forum. but also, we discuss why its totally okay that this other guy does it all the time, and we all just need to ignore him. like rational grownups.

Yep! In 4th grade another student tried to scam me out of a pokemon card by trading me a fake one he printed. When I confronted him, he jumped on me and bit my ear so hard it bled. I hit him in the head in self defense and was suspended for a week.

My father was so upset he brought me to school and spent 20 minutes berating my teacher in front of the class, until the principal came in and agreed to lift the suspension. I can think of at least a handful of similar situations where other students were punished but without recourse.

the only reason we didn't have it in my school district was the district getting sued over it when a hs kid got badly beaten in 1995 & the parents & pta sued the District for it when the kid who got beaten was expelled with the kids who beat him. started actually intervening instead

I never escalated truly, but every time I complained about bullying I just got an “uh-huh, we’ll deal with him.” And then nothing happens.

Like I got literally shoved out of the way one time and I went to the principal’s office like “hey this kid literally pushed me.” And he never got in trouble.

I think I went off at my now ex in 6th grade for ignoring me and I did get punished with ISS but Idr if it’s bc they actually went and punished me or I was originally gonna get a slap on the wrist but was confused as to why. In retrospect, they shouldn’t have put me in ISS for ***THAT***.

columbine changed that in my experience by causing school administrators to regard my affect as an inherent, free-floating form of escalation irrespective of my actions - i had learned to keep my head down by that point - and put me in a bunch of half-assed group therapy shit about it

I was put on my school’s “Columbine Watch List”, which I didn’t find out about until years later. Apparently it was due to my obsessive love of Time-Life’s Mysteries of the Unknown books, which I tried to cite in every assigned essay as a joke.

Yes, I developed the (unfortunate) life long habit of escalating to the sufficient level immediately so that it got properly addressed without unnecessary hesitations or delays.

I also don’t think rich kids have this same issue, so it’s probably class based.
