Wow, talk about missing the point. I mean, it is The Federalist after all, so I don't expect much, but "liberals are ashamed of Hamilton"? Has he ever met a liberal? Or a theatre kid?
Huh? I guess I will never not be surprised by the stupidity proclamations they continue to invent as distractions. I mean, they may learn a few things while co opting so go for it I guess. Also, it still gets put on my household’s loop repeat listens so I won’t complain about hearing it more often
"There are a couple of leftist throwaway lines — “immigrants, we get the job done” and a mention of including women in the sequel that always get loud cheers from leftist audiences"
"Rather than separating Americans by racial and ethnic origin, Hamilton suggests that the founders and their legacy belong to all Americans, regardless of background."
Right, and that's precisely what Conservatives object to.
Can we just disseminate that nothing would “own the libs” more than adopting Bernie Sanders’ policy proposals as conservative agenda items? Nothing would bother me more than the opposition fairly considering my perspective.
Holy moly, Marisa, thanks for sharing! One of the funniest, most disconnected pieces I’ve read in awhile. It’s part of a larger bit, my favorite actually, when conservatives use their incredible cognitive dissonance abilities to misinterpret powerful pieces of art. They’re the best at it!
They're so close! "Why does MAGA hate this musical that celebrates all these amazing things about America while recognizing its flaws and complex history? Why does that message resonate with liberals but not MAGA?"
I think this is a fantastic idea. They should absolutely do this thing. Please, yes, embrace "leftist" media and spread it far and wide with a smile. So every. single. person. can hear that message.
You should watch the Illegal Hamilton that a church in Texas did. It’s hysterically bad and shows how conservatives try to impose their evangelicalism on founders.
The author points to some things in the show that could be broadly interpreted as conservative (family, patriotism) and then asserts that since liberals naturally hate these things they must actually hate the show.
Hamilton superfan here, therefore biased. I read the article once and I don't know WTF they're talking about. I will read again. I recall the Trumpies being **insanely** pissed off back in 2016-17 because people of color as Hamilton, Washington, Jefferson etc. Will research later for my amusement.
I was like, "no way is that in the Federalist" article, and IT IS THERE, lol. This is the argument that admirers of the show made early on, and Trumpsters roundly rejected it as woke nonsense. SMDH at the Federalist flip-flopping (but not surprised at these craven assholes)
It's never going to make sense. They just have their panties in a wad because the cast of Hamilton told them to go pound sand and now they are all in their feelings.
"Josh Daws is the host of The Great Awokening Podcast, where he is dedicated to helping Christians navigate the complex and rapidly changing cultural landscape through his biblically based cultural analysis."
🤣
Good grief. I love how the right believes that they are the sole advocates of patriotism, "traditional" values, and marriage (don't tell the author that Hamilton has an affair). And, according to them, the left SHOULD embrace these things, but the right will never accept it when they do.
I will admit that I nearly choked at this early line, because it might be the funniest thing I've ever seen written, out of context.
In context I don't think this is funny. Watching the twisted logic that this conservative is using to bend and warp reality is honestly disturbing and terrifying.
This is like the cultural-artistic equivalent of “gay people are destroying America except for my one gay friend in real life who’s cool, funny how that works”
Oh, is this the Master and Commander effect? Master and Commander is a beautifully written novel that doesn't seem to have any political ideology. But over the last 50 years, it has become a conservative favorite due to what they see as traditional values and an emphasis on hierarchy.
Any chance this article actually influences some conservative folks to get out and see some real patriotism? And to maybe rethink their ideas of what makes something American and patriotic?
It must be a very sad life to live when you see everything through a purely political viewpoint and the desire to "own" the other side drives your thinking
Look I’m all for a good “death of the author” argument but this is just hilariously wrong in every direction.
The idea of a liberal trying to reclaim a slice of that whole respect for the Founders/patriotism thing, and creating good art in the process, has broken his poor little brain.
If someone came up to you in a bar talking like the author of this piece, you would run away, hop in your car & drive a long way out of town just to ensure you never take the chance of running into this person ever again. Just a certifiably weird and insane reading of what Hamilton is about
The funniest thing about this, to me, is completely ignoring the fact that Hamilton is closely based on Ron Chernow’s book. It almost sounds like he’s saying that LMM “got it right by accident.” No, he did a fabulous job of faithfully turning that excellent biography into a marvelous stage musical.
If you think about it, Drag Queen Story Hour is highly conservative, representing a positive monarchy and telling made-up stories to young children, all MAGA and conservative values! They definitely should be embraced by the right.
Oh no, do we hate Hamilton now? That was NOT discussed at the last meeting, and I don't see it -anywhere- in my actblue newsletter between the many ads requesting 15 dollars.

Stupidest people on earth.
Right, and that's precisely what Conservatives object to.
So, NO thanks for this.
At the very least, the idea that it treats Jefferson well implies they didn’t pay much attention to… all of Act 2 😂 Cabinet Battles, anyone?

That's the level of "analysis" here.

Conservative 😹😹😹😹😹Omgomgomg
Also the right: *cut funding funding for music*
“IMMIGRANTS WE GET THE JOB DONE!”
This guy's going to need some work after that stretch.

lol 😂
Speaking for all the times Republicans play Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, or Rage Against The Machine at their events.
Put that together with the MAGA reaction to Kendrick’s halftime show and it’s like…maybe you guys just can’t understand rap?
