If Trump prospectively pardons him, he becomes literally untouchable for any damage he causes

Yes, but even if one day we do have a DOJ again, Trump can preemptively pardon both Musk and the judge who accepted the bribe.

Trump can even order the murder of anyone he wants, as long as it's in DC. He tried to do that, on 1/6/21.

Not even $1 billion! He could offer in the millions - enough to retire and set up kids and grandkids for life - and a sizeable number of federal judges would likely accept

Judge Luttig famously resigned from the 4th Cir to take a GC job at Boeing. Gave up a lifetime <$200k salary for $2ishM / yr and explicitly noted his kids' college tuition as a reason in his resignation letter.

Or they could go the Thomas route: keep your judgeship AND your billionaire "friends" 🤷
