for no particular reason, fyi - any US citizen can request a passport card, which serves as proof of US citizenship and is small enough to carry in a wallet or tuck away in your bag

If you get your wallet stolen, it’s a different process to replace than state id
After the election I renewed my lapsed passport and added a card for the "papers please" I knew was coming.
Getting a new card is $65 but adding it to a passport order is $30, btw.
What hoops do they make you jump through if you lose the card? And even if you have the standard passport?
While not a horrible situation if you lose the card, you’ll find yourself filling out extra paperwork and having to present yourself in person.
