I'm still on the waitlist for it at my library but people have been talking about it since last year - written in 1993 but set in 2024, in a post apocalyptic America that is falling apart from climate change, wealth inequality and corporate greed. And Octavia Butler was from Pasadena.

My husband loves fried apples (like slices pan carmellized in butter, not deep fried). After one orchard trip a few years ago I made fried apple filled apple-spice-oat muffins that he is still talking about… I imagine that whisky would work in them too.
