I rewatched most of this one on TV last night. I've always admired how Mann respects the emotional integrity of the women who are caught up in the collateral damage of the men they love. He's a really great filmmaker of heterosexuality. For real.
A realization that the world ended a long time ago.
It's smart about the ways that almost professional sporting leagues operate more like carnivals. It's a traveling road show of dreamers. Might as well be BRONCO BILLY. But the real draw here is simple: Susan Sarandon has a magical baseball player improving pussy.
It's the care shown towards the complex emotions of children, especially for a child who is struggling, that moves me endlessly. I adore this film.
