In a perfect world I would agree... or even a somewhat imperfect world... but there are so many guns in the states now it would be impossible to retrieve enough semi-auto firearms to matter.

Was a very rough day watching that all unfold while I taught computer lab. When people make comments to this day like, "Better ban assault forks," "Better ban cars," they are referring to this anniversary. Just monsters.
I totally agree but in the list of things we need to do or ban in this country, that has unfortunately dropped way down the list. We will be in a fight for our survival from many fronts after Jan. 20th, from disease to bankruptcy to feeding our families.
Assault weapons are not used by hunters because of the extreme damage they inflict making the animal useless as food, so there is absolutely no reason they should be easily purchased to kill human beings.
It would be funny it it wasn't so tragic that the ammosexuals insist that assault weapons are necessary by citing examples where one was used to stop a crime. As if an ordinary pistol wouldn't have had the exact same outcome.
While I see your point, this also has to do with children. Red states have a higher firearm mortality rate because they have much less stricter gun laws than blue states. Fascism is also taking place in schools. They are following Maga. I’d rather have a gun ban.
I understand that, but there are more guns in the U.S. than people. Getting rid of them will be next to impossible, and criminals/murderers do not abide by the laws.

Yes, however, because it is the second amendment to have the right to bear arms, it became a state thing. Governors choose the laws. Blue states have much stricter gun laws than red states. On average, red states have a higher firearm mortality rate than blue states.

Took school shooter training the other day. Thankful for officers who provide training, but spent rest of the day pissed off and sad that we live in this dystopian age.

What we need is the laws governing firearms purchases to be strictly enforced by every police agency across the country. Why too many sheriffs think they know best. Every gun purchase needs a background check. Every gun needs a 10 day waiting period. Failure of state local and federal governments
We need gun legislation authored by people who understand guns as well as the necessity of self defense in an increasingly unhinged world. Not blanket bans of guns you think are scary.

10 states plus the District of Columbia have an assault weapons ban.
The only thing we can realistically do is grassroots activism at the local level to increase the number of states.
And we'll never get one as long as Republicans run any part of the show. Guns are the leading cause of death among children but Repubs don't care about that-They NEVER care about children after birth.

Assault weapons refer to automatic guns. Most guns used in shootings are semi automatic with high capacity magazines. Ban high capacity magazines. No citizen needs a 30 round magazine.
