Once they subvert democracy through diminished education, and corporate controlled media, it becomes very difficult to vote your way out of. Fox News, and evangelical churches have been demonizing democrats for decades. Republicans refuse to talk about policy or it's effects. Debate is dead.

That’s what’s frustrating to me. Some of us have been watching this slide since Reagan but I didn’t identify it as fascism until TFG. I thought of it more as direction I didn’t want country to go in. And it is hard to know what strategy is to overcome it, beyond fighting individual acts.

Tom, there were also critical staging points in this slide toward fascism. 1. was the Reagan cooptation of Christian fundamentalists; 2. Citizens United; 3. Publicly performative patriotism. 1 & 3 conflate religion and patriotism with fealty to DJT. 2 sets the stage for unfettered corporate rule.
