I'm bracing for the sentencing. I fear what the French law currently allows won't be commensurate with the public outrage. I hope this means the law will change, and French culture too. Most of all I hope that every victim of rape now sees how rigged the "respectability" game is.

There is common denominator. They all thought her consent was irrelevant, that it was her husband's to give. Really depressing to read, but relateable unfortunately. I hope Gisele Pelicot gets some peace.

We're shown over and over again that so many men, and women, don't take sexual assault seriously, excuse it as nothing much, shrug their shoulders. In this trial, in the election of Trump, in so many ways. It's almost more horrific that the offences themselves

I struggle to understand how any of these men could have thought that what they were being asked to do was right.
If I had been in contact with the husband, I was not, I would have been insisting on clear consent from all parties.
Not that I would have gotten involved in this sort of behaviour.

My horror is that given the small geographic area the defendants come from, and their number, how do we now look at our male friends, relatives and neighbours. I don’t see this as a ‘French thing’.

I've been reading the articles each week and thinking 'if this story was a novel, it would be criticised as being too far fetched.' Just horrific. Her strength and resilience in seeing this through is simply extraordinary. It must be so traumatic.
