Our school district is piloting a new safety "program" where all the classroom doors are closed *and locked* during class and I gotta say: it seems like a fire hazard to me

It was a whole thing because in California a lot of the schools (every school any child has attended) classroom doors open directly to outside and hallways are like covered outdoor walkways
I asked my firefighter BIL about it and he said it's probably not that big of a safety concern in the event of a fire because the teacher and kids can unlock from the inside if necessary. So i feel slightly better about that. but it seems like a PITA for the teachers.
In the school where I worked, the classroom doors were locked on the outside, but if you were inside, you exited by just turning the handle--the same as you would if the door was just closed.
Ay, that's the rub. But ideally the door would only be open/unlocked when a student was in the bathroom and we were trying to limit bathroom trips because that was in the midst of the TikTok destroy school bathrooms trend. 'Merica!
