I accidentally left my mask at home- Not even one to be found at RIC for purchase, at TSA or at check-in. Of course, I contracted a horrible URI all week taking care of my 87 year old mother who then caught something from me. C19 aside, Masks should be mandatory on planes. Just makes sense.

Tara Moriarty's lab shows prevalence is 0.5-2.5% over past 2 years. For a flight with 250 people on board that's a 71-98% chance that AT LEAST 1 person will have covid on any given flight, consistent with this measurement. But ~no one cares, because caring doesn't give power, $$$, or convenience.

The samples were taken from aircraft sewage and sewage sampling is very reliable to detect and track the presence of virus. But using the words “if you believe it’s NOW safe to fly” without a mask is misleading because these samples were taken in Dec 2022.

It's still a jump to say that virus being shed in feces means that the airborne risk on an airplane is high. Too many other factors like airflow, etc.

I could be wrong but I feel like I had come across an article that mentioned the only time to be concerned re: air flow and viruses, is if the person is sitting next to you or back and behind, essentially everyone else won't affect you since the air flow recycles the rest of the plane

I'm consistently vaccinated so I think it's worth the risk of not wearing a mask during flight or in the airport. I typically wear one during boarding and deplaning, not just for covid but all airborne viruses.

This is definitely subject to caveats. People throughout the cabin can be affected. Last flight I went on 6 (3 and 3) of us sat together 3 of us wearing masks due to vulnerable status.

3 without masks all tested positive 96 hours later.

Guy sat behind us coughing all the way through a 4.5 hour flight. I’ll always wear a mask when flying now.

That is pretty much what I would expect, and the reason I use FFP3 from the entry into the departure terminal to the exit from the artivals terminal - assuming, of course, that there is no crowd outdoors.
