I haven't watched a second of cable news in ten days, probably the longest stretch without doing so in my professional life, and my mental health has markedly improved.

Thought I was the only one. Since the election my time spent scrolling social media, combing accounts of political pundits and watching cable news has dropped dramatically and consequently, my anxiety...& I am 🇨🇦Can't imagine being American.
So moving forward, kitten and puppy videos it is! 🐈🐾
It has been amazing.
I still know what horrible things are going on, but I don't have to be bathed in it like it was barbeque sauce.
I do love barbeque sauce.
That’s great to hear! As an artist, I finally got into the studio yesterday. I’m going to work on expanding my community here in Arizona- stay creative and keep our sanity
Same, but for NPR. Been listening to local music radio (plug: CHiRP in Chicago and streaming) and my music collection. A friend has been curating Finnish pop music and other foreign pieces. I feel SO much better.
It feels a bit like kicking a harmful addiction. I am constantly tempted, but my mental health is improving. Who knew avoidance and apathy were the answer?
I stopped watching almost all tv news (and I used to have it A LOT) around 2011 when @olbermann.bsky.social left MSNBC. I did watch Rachel Maddow for a sometime after that, but even that stopped.

Me, too. I don’t want to hear Thumpy speak much less look at him. My attitude and worries have improved a bit. At least I’m not gritting my teeth every day.
Ha! Ha! Ahead of you by two decades! Since they 🔩 the 2004 presidential race! Now I put all news people and outlets in a list and haven’t visited it yet. Only follow the good guys
ikr There has to be a better way to keep up. I appreciate seeing several of my dependable "breaking" type accounts here. Like before, The Resistance will not be televised.
Same here and agreed 💯. What’s also interesting is that I’m no less informed of world events. There’s so few actual facts or data presented on cable. It’s 85% opinions.
Thank god that’s not a requirement of my profession. I stopped watching a lot of news after 10/7. Podcasts have been much more useful for me in the months since. Experiencing this last year+ as a Jew has somewhat prepared for what will come next. Had to look inward to my own communities for support
Same here. Strangely, I feel empowered by this boycott. I’ve taken back a bit of control in my life that at first I felt the election result was taking away. I’m not going to allow it to alter my outlook on life.
I can't remember the last time I watched cable news, I don't have access as all I pay for is streaming services. I mean I guess I could watch CNN through Max. And I did for election returns until I got sick of it. But that's the last time.
I'm with you accept I do have to admit that I have to watch a Nicole Wallace a bit as she'll tell it like it is and not suffer these fools. It used to be a given for the full two hours every day. Much as this all pisses me off on many levels I have to get a smidge of a take every now and then.

We are where we are because of their cowardice.
Harris supporters have been too despondent to watch the news since the election.
Trump supporters were too ignorant to watch the news BEFORE the election.

They need to focus on the horror that has befallen America instead.
