My 10 year old son said he wants privacy.
Oh how I laughed. Lordy. That was good.
The poor boy will learn like I learned that there's no such thing as "privacy" in Pakistani and immigrant homes.

Kids need privacy, too.
Don't drag the rest of us in as an excuse.
He was mocking those parents.
It's like when Asians do skits about their non-existent kids wanting to do something other than be a doctor or lawyer.
My mom though did actually do this tho, recently. She knocked on my door-
I'm an adult, having a baby soon, and still share a room with my sister.
After she did it she said "see how I "respected" you? 🙄 I knocked then waited. Well it's never gonna happen again."
It proved she's able and choses not to.
So I find the joke funny and relatable for growing up in a black household.

I think capitalism likes us atomized and isolated but that's just me
Just love them all.
The takeaway from this shouldn't be "Preps can't take a joke" it should be "Is really important to respect people's space and privacy."
As a kid who was forcibly isolated on top of having 0 privacy till 17 (I'm a pregnant adult and still can't lock my door so very little change.)
It's funny. The take away is that this is bad and unreasonable. It's making fun of the parents.
My sister built a fort at 15 and moved into it.
I grew up in a world where the kids ran feral, right up till the street lights came on.
You are both in agreement that kids should have privacy. He's mocking parents with the mindset.
A lot of people got the joke. Including in the comments.
i'm saying this as a kid of immigrants from a country where that is the norm as well. i get using humour to cope but joking about inflicting that on your own children is not the vibe :)
It's not a threat to children he currently has or will have in the future.
If anything, it's acknowledging that this behavior is abusive and mocking people with that mindset.
It just makes you not the target audience. Be impacted all you want but your feelings aren't his responsibility.
You don't have to like it when someone jokes about THEIR experiences and neither does anyone else.
2. i am far from the only person who took it that way
3. i am not impacted by this joke, i just think it was a dick move to joke about not giving your child privacy. i have every right to express that i thought it was a dick move
This dude doesn't even HAVE a 10 year-old. You're defending a child that doesn't exist because of a SATIRICAL post making fun of bad parenting.
Again, you are not the target audience.
When I woke up the door was gone, just 3 empty hinges and the frane.
And I was informed I could rent or take out a mortgage if I wanted privacy.
