The Supreme Court decision should have been 9-0. The fact it was 5-4 reveals how utterly compromised the bench is in favor of right-wing authoritarianism.

🤔 so that means 4 of the Cons on SCOTUS are vile pieces of 💩 that are happy to burn the US to the ground, and the other 2 Cons are vile pieces of 💩 that aren't quite there yet.
"The district judge should have worn a MAGA hat, attacked cops, and smeared shit in the Capitol during a violent insurrection to overturn an election in favor of Trump. Then Alito would have been more gracious and forgiving."
Constitutional Originalism:
1. If the Constitution does not expressly prohibit it, it cannot be prohibited.
2. If the Constitution does not expressly allow it, it can be prohibited.
“Don’t pay people for the work they’ve already done for you” is an essential principle of modern capitalist conservatism. Ask anyone who did work for Donny.
the real problem appears to be that they have a top job for life, and there's almost no way they can be fired.
Get rid of both of those obstacles and you may get a non biased judiciary
Trump and Vance are a threat to our democracy and freedoms—we must get them out of the White House!
Sign and share my petition to impeach Donald Trump and JD Vance, and remove Elon Musk’s dangerous influence from our government. https://www.change.org/Impeach_Donald_Trump_2025
Congress didn’t ask the new Justices the right question: “Do you put God or Country first?” The new Justices evidently choose their own Christian Gods over our Country. Those judges should be preachers, not America’s ethical decision makers. I request a redeal, please!
If they don’t start really thinking about how they’re voting on items they are probably going to out of a job, they will go on the unemployment heap. Stop sucking up to tRump
He has the four frat boys on his team. Lately, Barrett has been siding with her fellow women on the bench. Roberts is the wild card in all of this. There are times I actually think he feels guilty about presiding over the most corrupt Supreme Court in our history.
They’re not dumb. They understand the constitution. I want to think sitting through that speech stirred some tiny bit of courage and conscience in the justices. We’re not asking them to be suddenly liberal, just uphold the rule of freaking law.
This court has been quite disappointing. Appointed for life so as to be above political pressure and influence, so that that their rulings would be purely constitutional. Not happening! Really sad!
"The Minority Dissent was written by Justice Alito where the last three pages were just 'Heil Trump' scribbled over and over again with a Sharpie and some reference to finishing the job"
1/Alito is full NAR so that's why for him. Gorsuch is aligned with the Project 25 folks where there is overlap with NAR. Clarence hates Dems as much as Trump does so it's the revenge tour for him. Trump has the dossier on Kavanaugh so there is that.
Probably no dirt on Roberts and Barrett so we can
2/can have them sometimes. If Trump forces Roberts to retire he will put in Cannon and that is the end. Maybe that is why Kennedy was there, as a hint to Roberts.
This is why elections and reform will not help America. Revolution is required - and a new constitution and reformed system of government which is less vulnerable to corruption and robust in the face of authoritarianism.
The UK is in a different position for the following reasons: 1. We’re not under fascist authoritarian rule. 2. The government continue to operate within democrat norms. 3. There are well tested mechanism to remove leaders that stray beyond their mandate - much more so, the rule of law.
And I don’t offer that, particularly, as a defence of the current government - but rather to illustrate that you are comparing apples and - wait for it, wait for it - orange (boom!) :)
When we were being 'ruled' by recent Tories it became very apparent that our system desperately needed restoring, just because labour is in power now makes no difference. Our system is hugely flawed
Again, not defending previous governments, but under the Tories, PMs were held to account and removed. And then, at the GE, the Tories took an utter spanking.
No system is perfect - but the Parliamentary system in the UK has stood - robust - for hundreds of years. I don’t see a better alternative.
Yep and if any liberal justice does they need to be put on artificial life support until Dem is president. I will never forgive Ginsberg for not making that her last dying wish. What a legacy in death move and FU to trump that would have been.
Thomas-Alito-Gorsuch. And now at some point Thomas (who should have been impeached) and Alito will retire and Trump will nominate forty-something rightwing flame throwers to replace them.
That 5-4 vote should become a direct hit to the US federal government credit rating.
It's a public statement that not only the president, but 44% of the Supreme Court feel that contractual obligations to pay debts are optional at the whim of the president and his consultants.
Damn right it should have been unanimous. We have never had such a corrupt Supreme Court with so many members with no respect for the US constitution, beholden only to the Republican Party.
Here I am thinking Congress approved the funds and the President is an equal (not superior) leg of government. Why the heck does almost half the SCOTUS not believe in the constitution.
Am I wrong?
It's more than that.
* SCOTUS is comprised of millionaires.
* 4 justices do not believe that contracts matter.
* They do not care about how many will suffer & die
* 4 'Christian' SCOTUS does not condone "charity" despite American farmers and drug manufacturers profiting from it.
I believe one of the most dangerous issues undermining American Democracy, in the 21st Century is constitutional interpretation. It is an issue that has long needed debate. It is an issue that demands a platform that allows the American People an opportunity to learn about and then
discuss the importance of constitutional interpretation. It is an issue that demands the American People vote on how the US Constitution is to be interpreted going forward. Constitutional interpretation was most recently brought to the forefront by Senator Mitch McConnell.
As Majority Leader, he took advantage of an alleged ambiguity in the language of the US Constitution. Pursuant to his perception of his authority under Article II Section 2 Clause 2 of the US Constitution. “He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate,
to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States,
whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments”.
On February 13th, 2016, Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Gregory Scalia passed away. Senator Mitch McConnell had declared he would obstruct the nomination of anyone President Barack Obama nominated to replace Scalia. President Obama proceeded to nominate Chief Judge of the United States
The four have been corrupt from day one they were appointed. Term limits. Now. Ethics oversight NOW. The four leave a stain on the Supreme Court that will never go away.
Republicans have been loading the supreme court for decades. Even their own judges wouldn't all support the "stuff" they're doing. A good house cleaning should include a critical look at those who voted for the little nazi runts.
Its for work that’s already been done. Nothing going forward. Don’t give SCOTUS too much praise for forcing the buffoon to pay our bills. #SCOTUS #Truml
What I don't understand is why are they okay with basically cancelling themselves out? By allowing him to ignore Congress and the courts that's exactly what they're doing.
It is beyond shocking that on any given day 4 or 5 Supreme Court justices would happily tell you they don't believe in the separation of powers at any time a Republican is president.
I am convinced the Democratic Party is as weak and paralyzed over fascism in 2025 as the Whig Party was weak and paralyzed over slavery in 1850. When the Whigs finally collapsed in 1854, a strong, activist Republican Party emerged and saved the US from disunion. The Democratic Party needs to go.
We were one vote shy of the Supreme Court voting to override the very foundations of the Constitution to enable the deaths of thousands upon thousands of starving children.
That is not the rule of law. That is chaotic evil.
We have known this since Trump’s first term. Are you just catching on? Today was a big victory because of that. Two of Trump’s pocket judges voted against him.
I cannot agree more! Those 4 are just shills for the special interest rich guys (and I do mean to refer only to men) who can dole out special favors in exchange for compromised judicial rulings.
Keep talking about this. These justices need to know people are watching and talking about their treason to take down freedom of the people. Point them out. Make them pariahs. They will go down in history regarding what they did to turn their back on their own people.
It’s not as much a reveal as it is a continuing affirmation of what we’ve known for several years now: that precedent is valid only up until they have to votes to overturn it
I’m not trying to heavily criticize the Dems, but they could have at least expanded the court to counter act what has and will eventually happen. We’ve known for over 8 years what Trump and his minions would do if returned to office…The fact that they did not put any contingencies in place is insane
I don’t know why they thought that. To be completely transparent I knew Kamala was not going to win. If people want to be really honest, the only person whom could’ve beat Trump without a doubt (even with him cheating) would have been a straight white, male candidate.
Even if Dems had possessed a congressional superpower, we ALL know what the result would be at some point, when the GOP inevitably got the same superpower. It's not a political power problem - it's a national moral and ethical problem.
Understood. But I just don't know what everyone would be preparing for. A reversal of the reversal of the reversal of women's (and everybody else's) rights? It's crazy time.
Maybe term limits on SCOTUS judges and a strict, enforceable, closely monitored code of conduct would help. Who knows.
It’s wild that there were no term limits on SCOTUS and I think it’s something the Dems should look into if they ever get a majority. However, I’m concerned about midterms as Trump will either suspend the vote or cheat…and I don’t think the Dems have a plan for either scenario.
There is always a way..it probably would have included some ambiguous actions..but that’s a discussion for another day. Everything that Trump accomplished in/outside of office and every criminal case that he’s been able to beat he has done so outside of how our “rules and laws” are suppose to work.
Anyone with sense, knew during Trump’s first stint in office knew that the supposed “democratic”guardrails had taken a beaten and would likely fall if not “shored” up… so to speak!
We need to stop trying to wish away history. The American people were clearly warned by Democrats in 2016 how a Trump presidency would impact SCOTUS. If they had heeded that warning there would have been no need to expand the court. The American public didn’t heed the warning.
I understand that people are, with ample reason, fearful. Fearful for themselves or loved ones or friends & neighbors ability to live their lives. People are fearful too for their country. Stay engaged but don’t lose your head.
I agree I love the dems policy’s but face it they are weenies Biden was no exception and Merrick Garland was a whole pack of foot-longs 🌭🌭🌭 I hate that man 😡
Thank now retired assholes Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema. Expand the court? Eliminate the filibuster? They couldn't do that to their GOOD FRIENDS across the aisle.
Then they both switched parties as a final fuck you.
It always annoyed me that Democrats never held them accountable. I’m not sure why the party continually supported them even though they never held the line. Manchin and Sinema should’ve been on the chopping block a long time ago. Both were absolutely useless.
They would've needed a super majority for that. Or change the rules for the Senate. Kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. As horrible as Trump is and will be through his term the bulk of his damage can easily be fixed by the next administration. Would be harder through Congress.
The only thing I disagree on is how long it’ll take to fix the damage Trump will do in four years. He’s done so much in two months I can’t imagine how much can be done in four years.
You're naive if you actually believe it can be "easily fixed by the next administration". There's way more at play than government agencies. Precedent is set, expect upheaval and destruction of norms and institutions for a very long time from here.
Better hold that thought because it can get worse if Alito and Thomas retire and tRump nominates Gaetz and Cannon to replace them. On the other hand, this administration is never going to abide by the rulings of the court as they have proven by ignoring the lower court, so we are already in trouble.
Absolutely!!!
The rest is not following the constitution
They are to be non biased and follow the constitution not a dictator
If this turns around, we will lose scotus being trustworthy
2/2 Will bridges be repaired, damage cleared after storms. What happens to the separation of powers and power of the purse. Will our government be functional at all - 5 to 4 - the change of one vote could have brought down our government
1/2 Shocking true. If the president can simply not pay a bill that Congress has authorized, our government's credit rating will decline, and contractors may think twice before working for the government
He is ending agencies and congress appropriated money long time and getting away with it. This is exactly what putin does. He is is compromised. It's much much worse than you think.
These are two of these impartial justices. Also, Kavanaugh‘s rant against the Democrats during his disastrous hearing was a warning. Gorsuch and his shady property deal smells of corruption.
Term limits
No one should have lifetime appointments in federal jobs.
Even the best will try to work past the physical. mental and emotional requirements of the job.
100% I’m not saying AI should be doing the job of judges, but the case was basically “Can the president do a job that the Constitution only allows the Legislative branch to do?”
Somehow *wink wink*
4 of the “best legal minds” in the country completely whiffed it.
Why does everything have to be like walking on a tightrope! Ready to fall off!
Why can't we just live with freedom and the rule of law. We don't need any kings that only represent
Crooks and Billionaires...
It's becoming evident that at some point, Amy Coney Barrett found her humanity and it conflicted with her tribal loyalty to the fascists who brung her.
Beware of any upcoming "accidents" involving Amy Coney Barrett.
Because you have three branches of government; the executive, the legislative and the judicial. Two of them are elected by the public and the other is elected by the other two, making it wholly subservient to whoever is in power, as we now see with Donald Trump.
But it's built on the assumption you don't end up with a tyrant or dictator in power. That's clearly not the case anymore. There are no longer three branches of government, there's one.
POTUS isn’t elected using democracy, POTUS is elected by an electoral college. Which isn’t democracy and is subject to Gerrymandering and in some cases down to a group of 8 individuals making the choice for several million people.
Until Mitch McConnel fucked with it. Denying Obama his right to appoint 9 months from the end of his term then jamming in Coney Barret in mere days. Hypocritical at the very least.
Still, the highest court in the land, literally interpreting the law for the entire nation, should probably be elected as well and have reasonable term limits, not lifetime appointments. Not that I trust entitled Americans to do much due diligence, so perhaps it is for the best as is.
Compared with the senate refusing to confirm a judge because the president isn't their political party? Merrick Garland nomination, 2016. I'd rather vote.
What’s more shocking is that they r appointed for life and it’s nearly impossible to remove them when they r corrupt like this and they have no enforceable code of conduct

WHAT THE FUCK?
Imagine the chaos this would’ve caused
Maybe Amy Coney Barrett has chosen to not sell her vote to any president which is what Thomas will never ever do..,
The system must be overhauled.

I bet he'll also tries to replace Barret.
No system is perfect - but the Parliamentary system in the UK has stood - robust - for hundreds of years. I don’t see a better alternative.
There is a benefit in an unelected body as a check and balance. But members should be selected on the basis of competency - not political favour.
So, agree, the Lords does need reforming, but not abolishing (imo).

This has gone way too far. IDC if we gotta pay Justices a few million a year like Ginny and her boi Clarence want to do.

It's a perfectly fine way to make it harder for a tyranny of the majority from oppressing the rights of minorities.
They are appointed by the POTUS, who is elected using democracy.
His appointments go to the Senate. With 100 members chosen via democracy.
While Justice and Liberty broadened.
The American Revolution never ends. But it also never goes backward.
There are district courts at the federal level that have been intervening during Trump's presidency to stop what he wants to do.
Biden appointed more federal judges than Trump did during his first term. For life.
His administration didn't push the issue because he thought, wrongly, that the anointment of Clinton 2.0 was a lock.
It was really a blessing in disguise. Garland would have been a disaster to progressive aims.
The Senate, elected by democracy, had a GOP majority and leader, who decided to withhold advice and consent.
Duh.
He put the final nails in the coffin of the middle class.
And what exactly did you do? Along with the other sift supposed Progressives?
Probably got another fucking tattoo.
Half celebrated, the other half capitulated.

It's never worked that way and never will because of politics.
Wanting more politics in that equation is absurd.
It's not Dodge City anymore.
We have enough of that in the other branches to go around.
There are places all over the United States that elect judges, and often, people without law degrees obtain those offices.
