That would depend on how long the flight is. Most of the flights I took were about 24 hours and while some might be able to wear masks for that long, I can't. I'd rather not fly, and during the main part of the pandemic it was compulsory, so I didn't. Then I didn't have visa issues
Agree. Planes and airports are the most dangerous places for respiratory infections. The nonsense talked about how the great air circulation systems in planes protect you is ridiculous.
Wish I’d worn a mask in class last week! The kids were sneezing and coughing all over. Second day of spring break I tested positive for Covid. Sucks for me.
Same! And a bonus: no more dried-out nasal passages. P.S. Any tips for hydrating? I bought some of the SIP mask valves, but have been too chicken to use them.
Yes that has to be right. An enclosed space. People in close quarters. A vaccination system shot to pieces by the vile scum that is RFK Junior and FOTUS Donny Dunce-o; there is now more chance of catching something that you would have once been safer from with a vaccination. Simple logic.
I've been accused in this thread of having my head in the sand. But virtue signalling rings hollow when your contribution to climate change could easily be drastically reduces
Covid is real and I'm up for masking. I can't see it working without ventilation but in general it's better than nothing. Climate change is much more real and affects the entire planet. Masks won't help mass extinction.
Understood. But if everybody would critically reduce emissions by flying less and driving less and heating and cooling less and wasting less the world would be a better place. Telling others to stop doing things they might have good reasons to do is useless imho.
I have an infection at the moment. It's in my nose, then my throat and now and again on my chest.
I was on the bus going to the doctors and I thought "I'll wear a mask to minimize my chance of infecting people".
Some asshat and his partner start going on about masks and how I'm stupid to wear one
So I said "well if you're both ok with me not wearing one". I took off my mask and coughed near them for the 20 minute journey while in between coughing telling them about my infection.
On advice from doctors, I masked on flights to and from Ireland last year. I was so glad I did, b/c on return flight I sat one seat away from a teen who coughed into her sleeve at least once every minute for 7 hours.
@bluesky can you add a like/completely agree button for all responses to a post. Airplanes? Check? Grocery stores? Check. Mass Transit? Check. Check check ✔️✔️✔️
Hear hear! I mask up religiously anytime I'm required to be inside any public space.
As my spouse is going through treatment for breast cancer, I will *not* risk bringing anything home to her that will complicate or make that journey harder than it already is.
You wear a mask to filter air you breathe out. If you want to stop airborne pathogens from getting into your system wear a mask that covers your eyes too (like a gas mask).
Otherwise the benefits are negligible.
It's not the air on the aircraft that is the problem but the congestion inside the airport which has none of the air filtration the aircraft does. Also the mask helps to keep the nasal passages moist and better prepared to prevent infection.
The air on the aircraft is a problem, as is the airport. The claim that airplanes are safe that has been made by some isn’t true. It’s a lottery, and a lot depends who you sit next to.

Some people are ever happy.
Soon Amercians will have to show their vaccination chart to get into Europe...
COVID
FLU, PNEUMONIA AND COVID!!!
RSV TOO. UGLY
Feels like I am raw dogging the air without one lol.
I was naive to think masking would be more acceptable and normal after COVID.

Since 2020.

Anyway, I kept mine on since it helps to keep my nasal passages from drying out.
