I have a skill issue where my outlines will have an overarching allegorical meaning, and then when I write, it never seems to gel that way on the page.
Oh, I feel this so much. π I find that when writing the actual story, I end up fixating too much on the individual sentences/language (or overwriting) and the story generally loses the clarity and pacing of the outline.
omg this happens to me all the tiiiime πI never outline except for short stories sometimes to give myself an idea then my brain is like GOOD JOB and leaves kajshd π
Iβm a pantser for partly that reason and partly because I canβt stick to an outline anyway. I use my first draft as the detailed outline and then rewrite it a bunch of times.
I have to outline juuuuuuuuust enough - I need to know where the plot is going and where the emotional arcs are going, but I need to leave how each chapter gets to those points unplanned. So I know by the end of the chapter that the reader will know X and this character will be angry...but not how.
