@jadehawk.bsky.social you're right...this so-called "Christian lady", Allie Beth Stuckey, a well-known influencer in the super white Christian realm, wrote a book called "Toxic Empathy." If you're not famiar w her, she's part of Charlie Kirk's TPUSA. 🤮🤮🤮
"Unfortunately, long term western fans of Castlevania never saw the boss 'Dump Troland' because 'Castlevania: Sin of Empathy' never got a release outside of Japan"
IIRC the main person saying it was a preacher who considered the Episcopal Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service this year to be dangerously woke.
At the point Evangelical are outright calling empathy a *sin*, rather than simply ignoring scripture’s calls for it, we kinda do need to start considering it a wholly distinct religion, huh?
I'm gonna remove the preview on this, since it's the bad place and all and nobody deserves to be ambushed by it, and I'll say it's more or less *exactly* what you're expecting.
While I've never been told that empathy was a sin outright, I was taught that the Devil tries to use our feelings for others to corrupt us into accepting sinners.
This was in the 90's/early 00's. It's always been a distinct religion.
That’s some “don’t become addicted to water… you will resent its absence” levels of “doubt your normal human instincts, it’s your inborn humanity that’s wrong here” levels of cultic mind control.
Those people mark themselves as deserving of no empathy. Even if we may feel the urge internally, ignore it and put the energy to more deserving people. Let any who say this phrase suffer and die *alone*.
That’s unrelated to the question of *forgiveness*, though! Like, I can *forgive* an addict for trying to steal my Switch at work but *also* make sure to keep it in the locked cabinet when not in use, you know?
I did have a therapist who called it a curse, and in context (referring to me correctly feeling what pain the people around me did, in this case, her) it was accurate. But sin? Oof.
for a minute I had a flashback to Bertolt Brecht’s Verfremdungseffekt but then I realised it’s 2025 and theology has fallen down a few flights of stairs

That said it sounds like a name for a Space Hulk..
