saw a video recently of instagram devs talking, apparently while you’re drafting a post they start uploading those images - so that when you hit “post”, it’s just a confirmation and gets sent a lot faster.
would probably speed up that posting time a bunch to pre-send media like that
Wondering if that discussion is what led to folks believing Insta's uploading your entire photo library in the background *just in case* you decide to post one of the pictures in it...
we currently do it for videos just not for images yet
i think one of the problems is that bluesky includes the ability to edit/transform the image, so if you upload it eagerly there's a chance of it being wasted if the user tries to edit even once, let alone edit several hundred times
images are still capped to 1mb at the moment but it might be really bad once it's raised. bandwidth might not matter much to servers but it does for users 😅

(kidding, thanks to everyone involved for making this happen!)

as always would ideally be optional via an “optimistic image upload” setting
Why did you decided for this UI instead of allowing long posts?
Some people just don’t appreciate event driven state management enough.
Gonna take a look at open issues and the contribution guide soon. Very excited.
Thank you so much

Could you start uploading the media as soon as it's attached?
Pre uploading any attached media would be beneficial.
But I'm sure it would mean creating a cleanup mechanism for cancelled media thread creation.
