The fact that the national gas tax is virtually non-existent, coupled with the different application of fuel efficiency standards to SUVs and trucks, largely contributes to my skepticism about the US’s commitment to addressing global warming seriously.
One of these trucks parks regularly in front of my house, right next to my Honda Fit. I can’t see around it at all if I’m trying to back out of my spot.
Welcome to NC where even though a faulty “lift kit” on a truck was directly responsible for the death of a small child in a parade last year, any and every kind of lift is still legal. https://www.wral.com/amp/21124513/
The "Carolina Squat" is the worst of this crap. Sure, let's make a 6k pound vehicle less maneuverable and with even less visibility. Plus it looks like a dog dragging its ass across the carpet after taking a shit.
Related one: the Christmas Parade tragedy from a year and a half ago really distills the problems of our region.
Blows my mind that a dude >whose job entailed installing these truck lift modifications/abominations< drove it down to Raleigh from out of state, lost control of it, ran over a child...
>in the presence of the child's friends< and crushed her to death while thousands of other kids and families looked on, when the city council/mayor did what we elect folks to do and put restrictions on parade vehicles (as the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce couldn't be bothered to do it)...
The universal reaction from the community hasn't been against the driver/child killer (who remains unconvicted), nor the organizer of the mid-November Xmas parade, but the city leaders.
This vitriol against the city spans both urban and conservative. How the hell did we become pro-crush-children?
I dunno, man. If you're following the post season, don't have tickets tomorrow, and want to watch, you owe it to yourself to approach the service entrance on the north side of PNC and walk in confidently, like you're late for warm-ups or something.
It's just absurd that we as a society allow this. It's absurd that this is what truck owners go out and buy, and it's absurd that this is what manufacturers are designing repeatedly.
Sadly, my new RAV4 has a high nose and I can't see much in front. In hindsight, I wish I would have test driven more vehicles to make sure I can see everything.

Does anyone in the area confuse you with Jordan Staal? You look to have the same build and complexion.
