So much to say about this, but the first is that if stopping at a red light is going to make you late, you were already late. You can accept that, or you can excuse your own law breaking because you are special and important.

People constantly rag on cyclists about the “rules of the road” but breaking traffic rules is so normalized and engrained into our culture that straightforwardly enforcing “you need to stop at a red light” is seen as an unfair and oppressive cash grab.

A) bike plus rider, tiny footprint, 200 pounds, unobstructed view and hearing; and
B) typical SUV, huge footprint, >4000 pounds, view blocked by pillars/hood, quiet cabin.
