I’ve always given my nieces and nephews books as gifts. Little Golden Books has some cool titles for young readers too. (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Beyoncé, Oprah, etc.).
Welp, I'm about to give my husband's "dad" guy a book cause I cussed him out at full volume in public yesterday. The book is The New Jim Crow and I'm not talking to him till he reads it.
Getting a book as a gift tells you as much about the gifter and what they think about you. It’s such a rare and glorious thing in todays age of gift cards and cash as presents.
I give books to my Grandchildren each birthday and Christmas. Also if I find some during the year. My Mother taught me to Love reading, I taught my Daughter and she is teaching my Grandbabies 🙏🌻🐞💚🐈
When my nephew was 3 everyone gave him a book for his birthday 📚 He was a bit miffed 💔 When he was handed a chunky gift it was unwrapped with gusto as it clearly wasn’t a book 🙌🏼 The disappointment when he discovered it was BOOK ENDS 🤪🤣 Needless to say he’s grown into a witty & clever man 🥳
I gave my grandson (9) the Harry Potter series and “The Wild Robot” for his birthday. I was delighted that he was delighted.
Books take you on adventures without leaving your home.
A snotty niece once said to me, “I don’t want gifts as books. It’s stupid because I can get them in the library.” I was the person who always gave a good gift plus a book. She never got another gift from me.
A book on my phone sometimes has a place, but there's nothing like print on paper, a strong spine, a shiney jacket, and something in between to put my heart in a vice that I find impossible to leave alone.
That's very true. I would rather give the gift of a book than a gun. I'm a Marine Veteran, I always get upset when families take Christmas photos holding rifles. At first, it seemed like fun but it's become ridiculous.
I remember always gifting books as I was a kid and my friends would look at me like I was crazy for doing so. As an adult, I'm aware that many great books that I gift will go on a shelf unread. I know they don't read them because they would otherwise comment on it.
I have taken slightly different route. I gift a book which I already read and tell the kid that he or she has to return this book to me once they are done and will discuss key points. Basically I am intentionally telling them to read.
It's all anyone gets from me for birthdays and all kids of friends are doomed to free books for life. It's so much fun finding the perfect book for someone! 📚❤️📚❤️📚❤️📚❤️
I run a mobile library for rough sleepers. Giving away books on the daily makes me happier than probably anything else I can think of. Love doing random book drops throughout town too
Gift giving for the holidays: something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read. My husbands family has done this for years and spawned generations of book lovers!
For my daughter’s birthdays this year I picked out a book each, new bookmarks and a gift card to Barnes and Noble. It made me happy that they have taken joy in reading as I do.
When i was a child, just about anytime my mom left the house, Id tell her to bring me a toy. She always brought a book. I'm so thankful for that and I was crazy far ahead of my classmates in reading comprehension. I was at 4th year college level in 7th-8th grade. I never missed those toys.
One of the best gifts my kids ever gave me was a years subscription to the Book of the Month club. Got some great books I never would have read otherwise
As I'm reading I think about who in my life would enjoy this book, and then give it to them when I'm done. Only keep the ones not worth peoples time...Butchers Crossing
In my teens I stopped reading (constant analysing at high school ruined it for me). Someone bought me Mucho Mojo by Joe R Lansdale, loved it and never looked back.
I’m no longer allowed to hoard books and never make it to the charity shop, so when I’ve finished a book I like to give it to the friend I think will most enjoy it on the promise that when they’ve read it they do the same. I’m creating a book swap culture 😊
My brother and I do this every year for Christmas. He's been bombing me with every SK book that comes along, and I've been hitting him back with good, hard sci fi. It's the right thing to do.
see the problem is that even though i love reading, i know for a fact i will NEVER end up actually reading it, for the same reason ill never watch a show that all my friends insist I HAVE to watch.
Each xmas, I choose a favorite book I've read & get a copy for each friend, plus a little something personal. Last year it was "The Midnight Library". Might be a downer this year, "On Tyranny" seems appropriate.
My husband always gives me books for special occasions and he knows exactly what to pick; suspense, historical... and the last time, he gave me an old copy of Jim Lovell's book, saying he knew how much I like Lovell and how much I like smelling old books.
Agreed. I've given a lot over the years, especially to my son. A few years ago I started purchasing 2 books at the same time and send one to him. We read the books and then discuss them and it's made for an even more rewarding and enriching relationship with both my son and books.
Yes my lovely friend @traceyleewrites.bsky.social introduced me to an amazing new world of the The Night Circus as my 50th birthday present, such a beautiful gift
It really is, if it’s a close friend/family - it’s basically an offer to spend more time together “Here is something that I loved that I’d like to share and talk about with you”
My good friend and I exchanged our art recently - she gifted me the two books her shirt stories got published in, and I created custom hand painted art for her new office and her kiddos. I cried when I opened her gift, I love getting books so much.
In my local mom and pop pharmacy the other day and saw a book titled "501 reasons I missed my golf shot". My g/daughter wants to be pro golfer so that's a stocking stuffer for her. She is good enough to make grown men say "I've been beaten by a girl, a teenage girl"... and walk off. She's good. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My daughter gave every guest at her wedding a hand selected book. Her wedding was held in a library. Her flowers were ‘roses’ made from pages of discarded pages of books that were no longer readable. It was an incredible day.
Thank you
I wanted to get this for my partners friends kid (we're all close).
She said it's not cool to give kids books as presents.
(I'm gonna get it anyway 😉)

My algebra textbook could really fly when I couldn't "find x." 😆

(We don’t really celebrate it otherwise, its just a way for me to give people the books that reminded me of them).
I’m giving all the kiddos in my life a book on how to spot fake news, disinformation, and conspiracies

I've never gotten an actual book, but gift cards for bookstores.

Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory.”
Don't buy your 15 year old a laptop or an iPad.
The moment I got one, I never picked up a book again.
1.) it was new but sitting at my house so of course hours later I started to worry if I left a slip of paper in it that reveals all my secrets
2.) usps said if it’s just media it’s cheaper than if it’s including a greeting card so ITS DEFINITELY ONLY A BOOK IN THERE
