The road lobby have insisted for decades that traffic grows by magic over time. It doesn't, it grows because politicians (as a group) deliberately encouraged it to grow for decades. It can be encouraged to reduce, by undoing past mistakes. Traffic evaporation does not mean it goes on other roads.

I was in Leith yesterday. Edinburgh Clowncil doesn't always get things right but, even with gas works gumming up some traffic, it is better then it was a decade or two ago when I worked there. Well done to the politicians who have done that despite the howls of anguish by the road/motoring lobby.

2) There is no proposal for a second bus gate. The report says that ‘consideration will be given’ to moving the bus gate to a better place, but this cannot be decided by committee next week and would be subject to a full public consultation and legal process.
