I'm not preordering a switch 2. There just aren't enough games to justify the price for me right now. I have literally thousands upon thousands of games to play already. No hate, no streamer fomo either, but that 400+ dollars can buy a lot of my favorite sandwiches and some canvasses for art, etc. - ThreadSky

I'm in a similar boat. It looks cool, but the launch titles aren't gripping me in a way that makes me say "I need this." Not to mention it's historically been in your best interests to wait for consoles as they produce better versions later.

This is such an excellent mindset. One of the things I struggled with a lot growing up was fomo. Gacha games made that worse until I realized that missing out on things didn't matter. Most mainstream game experiences are rarely lost forever, and it's always cheaper to wait.

It makes me wonder - where does gaming even go from here? Is this it now? Ever larger games in ever higher resolution? TotK / Odyssey but it's 50x as big and it's in 4K? Indie devs are making masterpieces and AAA studios seem to just be doin' a capitalism as usual. IDK maybe I'm old.

Technology is a means to an end. Historically, "better tech" meant "bigger games" because we kept smashing through limitations that impeded scope. Now, coming up is an era where better tech means less time/resources spent getting stuff to work, more put into actual design. That's my optimistic view.

I like that optimism. I didn't mean this as a negative post. I'm sure eventually something will come out for Switch 2 that makes me excited to own one. The Switch has provided tons of great games and has been my favorite Nintendo console by a mile.

Yeah tech is at a weird spot. In the same way a 5 year old phone still works fine, or a 10 year old computer is good enough for the average user... what has really changed in gaming in the last 10 years?

Outside of VR enhancements, or the move to massive multiplayer Battle Royale games (fortnight / F Zero 99), it seems like graphics and lighting are the biggest change to games, but minimal differences in gameplay. 2015 Vs 2025 is a much smaller difference than 1995 vs 2005 games.

It almost seems, in retrospect, like this wall was inevitable. My scifi wish is holograms. No goofy glasses to wear, just a lil hologram Mario I can run around my living room. A starfox space battle in my backyard.

I feel the same, they've only announced 5 exclusive games so far, and they don't even look that interesting. It's missing a new Mario (Platformer) or Zelda game for now.

Indie Games just offer much better gaming experiences for <30€
