Kilauea and Mauna Loa were the proving ground for many volcanologists who later studied Mount St. Helens.

Don Swanson of the USGS studied the Cascades and in Hawaii before 1980, later becoming a key figure at St. Helens in the 1980s and Scientist-in-Chief at the Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory.

They're so cool!!! I got to see Etna erupting in February, and it was a major bucket list item for me- that I nevertheless want to go back and do again as soon as possible despite allegedly "checking it off the list" :D

Always wanted to make it to Sicily — very jealous! Etna has put on a good show these last few months (thanks to @borisetneo.bsky.social for keeping us up to date).

For now, I’ve had to settle for Pompeii and Vesuvius. Howwwww terrible.

I was in an late afternoon small plane sunset flight over Kilauea when staying on Maui many moons ago. The feature of the tour was watching the lava meet the sea. I was transported by the whole experience.
