Think it's a pretty good earner, to be fair. The biggest issue for me would be more that to get to the top you have to start young, forgoe playing the game, and then not really understanding basic stuff you're seeing that players know on sight. Making a back for someone, for instance.

Top level football players earn on average around 10x that of top level referees. In rugby union, it's more like 3x. Guess which one of those is consistently viewed as the best officiated sport in the world.

For more context, rugby is the outlier here. In most other popular sports (such as cricket and US sports leagues) the number is in roughly the 7-12x range.

Yes, more money, at the PL, Championship, maybe League one level needed. The path to the PL requires years of abuse. There’s little incentive for top talent to enter this field
