Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. If there is no struggle, there is no progress.

Very enjoyable chat with the lads on one of those days Ice Cube talks about. If you like your footy talk sprinkled with Greek mythology and 90s film references then we continue to be a must listen.

The Derby County team that got 11pts were less out of their depth than this lot.

The racial exclusions of the border regime have malfunctioned. Somehow the British state extended a minimal act of kindness to a family of the wrong sort of humans. Bipartisan resolve that this will never happen again. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Insane stuff here, making your sales pitch directly at people who hate you and won’t vote for you, while deliberately alienating people who might, all because you all got behind the party’s Corporate Bungs Officer and he is a belligerent wingnut crank.

No one doing it like @garbageday.email right now. The venom. The concision.

No consequences for the people who completely sabotaged any possible soft-brexit position that compromised between a democratic vote and economic sanity? Of course not. They achieved the goal of fucking the left then disappeared into the mist. ...or became government ministers.

Rachel Reeves says that "at the election people voted for a whole new approach." I think that's probably true. Also sure as anything that this isn't new - it's failed trickle down economics all over again.

Me (watching Starmer doing a dance for Harry Cole to music made from increasingly louder dog-whistles as Reeves reheats trickle-down economics): "Maybe they are on to something, eh?"

Maybe the fact that billionaire owned press know that if they keep disciplining a desperate, flailing government said leadership will keep dancing even harder to their tune actually means the government is great. Actually. Have you thought of that? Eh?

This is a really key point for educators. It's not sufficient to simply tell our students that AI use is prohibited in their assessments. We need to explain to them why it's against their own interests. They will never develop the analytical skills they need if they come to rely on these tools.

This thread is so awful, and weird, and unsettling.

Five years ago I went to Hale End to observe a new initiative where the best of the academy girls were parachuted in to train with the boys to extend their challenge. One of those two 13 year old girls is now England u17 captain and just signed her first pro contract. Well done Laila Harbert! 🔥

"Just one more thing, what county in Wales did you say you came from?" Think yourselves lucky. You're playing on easy mode. #TheTraitors

Hillsborough campaigner Phil Scraton refuses OBE "I could not accept an honour tied in name to the 'British Empire'. In my scholarship and teaching I remain a strong critic of the historical, cultural and political contexts of imperialism and their international legacy." ❤️

Everybody seems to be having an off-day when they play against Liverpool

The focus, misguided in my opinion, on Spurs tactics being "naive" is letting Postecoglu get away with murder. He's executing his own tactics so poorly, and why has he only got 4 senior CMs? 6 recognised defenders? You built the squad mate, you play the same lads every game.

Join us for an extra special Christmas pod with almost the whole crew, recorded at the brilliant Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool. Much better quality sound, same quality content. Sadly. theliverpoolway.podbean.com/e/the-2024-c...

At the height of the global energy crisis in 2022 that threw people around the world into energy poverty, quarterly net profits in stock market-listed oil and gas companies were at a record globally. From our latest paper: scholarworks.umass.edu/server/api/c...

To be fair, it has been hard to get attention given that the government has essentially been flailing around the room like a clown that is on fire and loudly shitting itself. She's polling above them, by the way. If we're talking "how it's going".

I once had a professor ask “Why is there a Business section in the newspaper but not a Labor section?” My classmates and I probably rolled our eyes, but damned if I haven’t remembered that question every few days for 30 years now.

49% for the combined hard right 26% for the reactionary centre 13% for the liberal-conformist centre There may or may not be a progressive majority in the UK. But 7% is well below where progressive political forces should be at a time of historic crisis *caused by the right and the centre*.

I mean, these losers are based in my city of leeds and I have counter protested them multiple times. This is exactly why I was absolutely gobsmacked that Starmer fullscale started saying Farage stuff. He is the PM, and he’s reciting stuff that emboldens literally fascist organisations.

i guess they read the room

#Israel issues airstrike notices for central #Beirut neighbourhoods inc Hamra for 1st time, far from suburbs &rarely hit. Ironically fact the IDF is devastating #Lebanon’s capital today means ceasefire is likely imminent; heavy bombardment in final hours is a common tactic. Roads full of ppl fleeing

One of their favourite politicians, Chuka Ummuna, is currently having his deeply help progressive desires blocked by his employers, JP Morgan. Hard to put into words how disappointed he is that he can't change the status quo of power and capital in the UK.

I understand why people have to tell themselves stories to feel better, but this is nonsense. The idea that a group of people whose "objective" is a plum job then well paid consultancy work from BP or a privatised utility are having their progressive desired blocked...it's for the birds.

Anyone who thinks our benefit system is too generous, has clearly had their common sense surgically extracted by the Daily Mail. Losing your job is financially catastrophic (esp for mortgage payers, who drop to just 12% of an average wage overnight). And our sickness benefits bill is similarly mean.

One of the most comprehensive studies available finds that in 2015 alone the imperial core appropriated $10 trillion from the periphery. Now, at COP29, imperial powers are promising to provide just $250bn in climate financing by 2035. That's a 40th of what was taken in that single year.

Well, it would very much depend what politics that MP had, wouldn't it? They've got a close friend of a sex-trafficer in a senior position and the media dare not mention it when doing softball interviews, and multiple sex-pests are left well alone because they hate socialists so...
