Recall in W11 is enough to prove to me that they will take my user data (anonymized or not) by any means necessary, so I'll just switch to Linux... where they don't do that. And if one distro DOES do that, there's a million that don't.

Linux Mint, with Win 7 in a VM. Yes there is occasionally some need to find out how to change something by going to the web, particularly for any command line stuff (i.e. getting hibernation working on a laptop) but mostly it's been plain sailing.

I think the main issue with Linux is that software/drivers aren't at a good enough parity for people to switch (ask any artist who uses Clip Studio Paint for example).

Best way to get into Linux IMO is to get a Steam Deck - you don't replace your main work machine, and you have a nice game console.

I think that depends on the distro you select, the desktop environment, and the willingness to learn about the new system. That's not to say that's going to solve peoples fear, but as someone who is by no means a Linux power user, I get by, but I'm not doing important work on my systems.
