My rejection of the "born this way" argument with gayness *as strategy* was always just that it hinged on framing queerness as normal b/c of just genetic diversity, but as a divergence from the normative that a bigot can then just pathologise as a "genetic fault" and still say should be "treated".

And any degree of uncertainty--e.g. identical twins where one's gay and one isn't--any degree to which one might be genetically predisposed but not determined, and they can say, "well, obviously the wrong development can & should be corrected." Because we haven't drawn the line over it as a *right*.

We are obviously converging on the same rage by symmetrical routes. I understand the limitations of the "born this way" approach as potentially conveying "Sorry, I can't help it, I would if I could"...

But I do think "born this way" still has a defiant side to it too:

So -- if I was NOT born this way, I should still get to do it/be it.
But also, and especially from an ND perspective -- if I WAS born this way, I should still not be assumed to be in need of fixing.

NHS: But we can! This brain scan proves your brain does not match Gender X
ND/trans person: Good, that's what I said. I'm Gender Y.
NHS: This means you're Gender X.
ND/trans person: ...what.
