Hmm. "Unlike the US customary cup and the metric cup, a tumbler, a breakfast cup, a cup, a teacup, a coffee cup, and a wine glass are not measuring cups: they are simply everyday drinking vessels commonly found in British households and typically having the respective aforementioned capacities."
They are a biscuit? Now Tim Tams and anything from Arnotts (cream selection please) is a biscuit not that floury sugary concoction that found its way into a coke recently.
You could adopt Canadian cups in solidarity though they're a bit small... Mexico is metric now but one can always experiment with the old cuartillo, a splendid unit.
Oreos are the burnt toast of biscuits and american chocolate has only just enough cocoa to be called chocolate. Don't get me started on american cheese...
My boycott is progressing very well.
Credit to our cousins, they are doing far more research into new hop varieties, and have a far more active hop breeding programme than we have in the unimaginative UK.
Unfortunately, the results are not to my taste. I do not like 'citrussy', which seems to be the dominant trend over there.
An Aussie friend who visited us here in Washington DC commented on his disappointment that the market is flooded with IPAs. The fact that microbreweries took off is phenomenal, considering the wretched choices available 20 years ago, but IPAs do tend to dominate here.
...and relatively few Americans seem to know what 'IPA' stands for, let alone why its history accounts for the high hop content.
I am generally not averse to English IPAs, but wish that we could develop some more imagination for the hops therein, without going the American route.
When looking for recipes on the interweb, I already discount any with measurements in cups. It is a fair sign that it will require opening tins and will result in an unappealing dish.
I mean, how on earth is one to measure a "cup of butter" anyway? It's impossible. Here, have a ginger biccie. Ancient recipe out of a book I got from a bargain bin at Paddington Station 40 years ago, so the ingredients were measured in ounces
Noooo! Not Oreos! I do understand that resistance comes with a price, but Oreos? I salute to your firm moral standing. You will stand as a shiny example (if you succeed).
