For me, fighting fascism has nothing to do with thinking I’ll win. I don’t fight because there’s an inevitable outcome, I fight because I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do something.

Truth!!! I fight because, win or lose, it's the right thing to do. I've made my peace with my maker, no regrets for a life well lived and a fight well fought. When it's my time I'll die knowing I was on the right side of history!
I went to the Baltic States 9/24 to support them. A great history lesson in fighting tyranny, fascists, authoritarians. Great documentary: https://singingrevolution.com about the Baltic Way - a line of people holding hands from Vilnius to Tallin. Could we be as brave?? #Baltics
What has me most worried is that nothing meaningful is being done to stop what is happening. And we are running out of time. No one is coming to save us - we have to do it ourselves.
I'll be right next to you, sister!!! Listening to the Fascist In Chief threaten other nations, malign our federal workers (my dad was one), and lie and lie and lie is beyond the pale.
When we look up to the great people in history that fought for our rights, realize we are looking up to their suffering. Nobody who did what they did had a great time doing it. Im sure Tubman, Debbs, Huey Neuton, all felt beaten down. But they did it anyway. Which is why they're heroes.
This is it. You don't fight because you'll win. You don't fight because you know you'll go down in a blaze of glory. You fight because your core beliefs, things that form the bedrock of your world view, they won't ALLOW you to choose to stand idly by. You fight because who you are says you must.
Thank you for this thread! I just said something similar to my therapist this morning…. thank you for articulating this so well… I struggle to explain at times.
I have the understanding this is an unending generations-long struggle, so I fight hard enough to have enough momentum to pass the baton of struggle onto my descendants that was passed to me by my ancestors. It's exhausting but quitting ain't in my DNA.
“Perhaps this is our only victory, to be liberated from the sway of the role assigned to us by power ….That despite all the doubts, you have a hope with holes in it that does not lead to any goal. But you seek through it, to restore your sense of the true value of your own life.” —Mutasim Khalaf
When I was a kid, abandoned to the circumstances I was born into, I learned it’s enough to do what you believe is right for as long as you can. The fantasy of being saved or becoming a savior burns up like dry leaves, but solid values pertaining to everyone’s humanity is creeping fire. It lasts.
I have felt helpless for so long, not knowing what to do. Your post, and the entire thread following it, have informed me how to contextualize the what, why and how of standing up for democracy and equity and the vulnerable - as well as inspired me to begin engaging!
(Know that when I say “fight”, that will mean something different to each and every person. Don’t try to make them fight the way you fight. Find out how they’re fighting, and figure out how you can assist/encourage one another in your primary challenges)
This is VITALLY important! DO NOT FIGHT on their terms. Ever. Never, EVER let them choose the battleground, they'll always win. Don't engage in a discussion about vaccines and autism, they'll flood the zone with bullshit.
Reframe the discussion around RFKjr's severe memory loss and mental fog and mercury poisoning (his own admission!). Literally everything out of his mouth should be accompanied by somone saying "yeah, but remember ..." This needs to be done with EVERY member of this administration.
I've been trying to teach people this for years. A single mom can't get arrested. A trans woman *shouldn't*, but might feel she has nothing to lose. Lawyers can afford it, but might be more valuable representing others.
There is no right way to fight any more than there is a right way to breathe.
These guys can't fight. They're worried about their political future. They sit there n get sh#tted on by the f@scists n hold up little signs. They should have all gotten up a walked out to hold news conferences outside!
I feel the same way. My parent’s generation fought in WWII and beat fascism. In honor of their courage and sacrifice, I must do something to fight back.
YES. This is why @algreen.house.gov ’s measure to impeach Trump is so important. Will it result in a different outcome? Prob not. But we’d be immoral not to try.
I’m gonna fight or die trying NONE of these mfs are going to stop me from fucking black and brown men or women or any gender and marrying them if I want, NOBODY they’re gonna have to kill me.

But we will win. Or our kids will.
Thank you.

Also, I wish that you didn't have to endure what you've lived through. Grateful you're here. 🫂❤️
