I realize the Jays can't get every free agent and the reputation that Jays front office has doesn't inspire confidence. But if Jeff can Jeff, this is a substantial add. Now extend Vladdy and maybe the Jays can become relevant again in the eyes of free agents

Hopefully he’s not another Kirby Yates. If signing a reliever with injury history is the strategy I feel like we might as well have stuck with our own guy for less money and term.

I’m not sure. It could be something minor that they just made them nervous at $40M. There is substance to his elbow (Tommy John) and should history over the years.

The Orioles are cheap. They do this regularly. Mike put it well, I suspect it was buyers remorse.

Or, they were expecting more innings out of him than we are, so the Jays are less concerned.

I would be more concerned if the Jays weren’t historically very keyed in on pitcher durability.

It’s one thing they have done really well recently.

Also, keep in mind that Carlos Correa “failed” two physicals before signing with the Twins. I doubt the Twins regret it.

Only time will tell, though teams sometimes use a “failed physical” as a way to deal with buyer’s remorse. I don’t think #Bluejays would have given him that level of term and dough if they were seriously worried about his shoulder holding up.

I really hope you are right - this isn't the Gord Ash Jays who traded David Wells after a 20 win season for Mike Sirotka (never threw a pitch here, not even in spring, due to injuries) - that was the final straw I always figured for Ash.

It’s not necessary to upgrade over Yimi because Hoffman is an add to Yimi. Now there are two of them. If he healthy it’s a terrific signing but yeah, doesn’t help them score.

Neither. I’ve always talked and written about how I felt things were going. Things are currently, in my opinion, not going well at all and there are glaring problems with the way #Bluejays front office is addressing them. I think the podcast is moving up the charts because more people know about it.

Don't discount the public's appreciation of honest critical analysis. It's needed. Jay's FO has changed internally since 2022, and that in turn, has led to certain voices gaining influence with Ross, leading to various controversial moves.
