Mum is 75, always considered herself liberal. She's a reliable Democratic voter, volunteers w/ League of Women Voters, goes to protests for social justice causes. She visited & lived in South Africa during the end of Apartheid, worked in an integrated restaurant. She's not perfect but she tries.

I have personally met a lot of way less-online people who are 100% on board with trans and minority rights (and would cut someone for abrogating those rights) who identify as liberals and would be confused and hurt if that was referred to as a bad thing.
