They have a place for things like proving identity for bank loans etc. it’s very difficult to prove Uk address from the approved list if you don’t have a paper utility bill etc. but no matter how “secure” they are someone is bound to find a way of getting round the system for nefarious reasons

Actually I think digital ID cards make sense. Even if it does nothing about grey/black market, it eliminates populist message that nothing is being done, and creates clarity as well as efficiency across services.

I agree with much of your thread - but I'd pitch ID cards as an efficiency play, making access to services quicker and easier. Also agree re Reform - the message should be to lean in and explain that UK economy relies on migrant labour and this is part of reason for stagflation in post Brexit era.
