I have a question for everyone... Have you got a loco or multiple unit that you miss seeing/riding behind/on? It has to be something that isn't in passenger service anymore! For me it's the 321/9s (and the 322s), I just found them to be a boat load of fun. - ThreadSky

For me (although you can still ride on them on heritage lines), probably a Mk.1 behind any early diesel. I've memories of relief and Pacer replacement services with a '47' up front. Also a first generation DMU in the former first class seats.

I drove these when they were with GA and preferred them to the Renatus 321’s. The unrefurbished 321’s were good to drive too.

Loco wise it's peaks on the Midland mainline for me. As far as units go it would have to be the EPBs that i travelled on a lot as a kid visiting family in the south east.

Absolutely! For me, it's the class 205 & 207 "Thumpers" many childhood summers were spent travelling on them to see family in Hastings. Also, any of the CIG/CEP/VEP slam door stock 😁

Can always remember being at the market in Rye town centre & hearing the Thumpers arrive, with their brakes squealing & then the iconic idle sounds of the engine. Then the noise of it erupting as it powered up & it could be heard for minutes after as it got further into the distance 🥲🤤

Didn’t get much on them, but the 309 Clacton units were by far one of the best emu’s built. Sadly, withdrawn from Anglia in my early years. Next is the 442 Wessex electrics. Basically Mk 3’s turned into an EMU.

Has to be the Class 101s for me. Was there on the last day/night of operation with First North Western out of Piccadilly. Never experienced owt like it before or since, a real party atmosphere. I did film it do have it on tape somewhere...

I don’t know if I miss riding on them as such but I do have a certain fondness for the 421/423s these days. They were the units of my childhood down here on the Brighton.

Oh, and then we had the 319s when they were new…but we don’t talk about them. 😅

Class 321s are probably my favourite EMU. I definitely miss them a lot. Such a shame they are gone. I also really miss the D Stock on the District Line but those are technically still in service in heavily refurbished form with other operators.

I grew up riding around on thumper units so I guess it would be them. Also the Standard Stock on the Isle of Wight. Actually pretty much all the trains of my youth have been withdrawn now and I miss them all!
